Driest winter on record so far in Northern Cali, and one of the warmest. Supposed to hit 75 next week. I'll take a ride for ya.

Don't worry, we'll be so dry by summer we'll be recycling our pee.

Youch! No thanks. Frostbite can set in quick at those temps.

I've ridden in snow, but after riding in teen temps once, I swore never again.

Up until last week we have been having one of the warmest winters I can remember. But we have had 2 fronts that have dropped it into the 40's at night and upper 60's in the day. Beautiful riding down here now. Been so hot in Australia this winter (their summer ) that a lot of people have died.

It's like an industrial restaurant freezer here in my neck of the woods.

    Wednesday morning: -19F (-28.3C)
    Thursday morning: -12F (-24.5C)
    This morning: -14F (-25.5C)

HIGH temperatures around here have struggled to reach 5F (-15C) all week.

Tomorrow, we'll have the first double digit temps above zero (then we're plunged right back into the deep freeze). Highest temperature mentioned in the next 10 days is 25F.

It's relative to location I guess...Here is So Cal we've had temps in the 80's most of this and last week! Supposed to be in the upper 70's this weekend and most of next week. I was all prepared for the cold and even bought new "winter" gear, which I haven't been able to break out yet! Not that I'm complaining.

You guys ever watch that disaster movie from the guy that loves to destroy shit called "Day After Tomorrow"?

That's what I keep thinking of when I see all these crazy weather stories.

We are on year 3 of the driest weather out here. While you guys are freezing, our crops are drying out and our lakes are drying out. Riding is the only good thing about the weather right now. One spark going astray on a windy day is going to put a huge hit on the state and since a significant amount of produce comes out of this state we may see price increases throughout the US.

Maybe it won't happen, but it sure is a concern.

Yep, pretty much. I expect that they'll be calling for water rationing soon as they typically do when we have no rain. We already did have our first "windy day, stray spark" that set off a huge fire up in the San Gabriel mountains. Not a very good outlook, especially considering that "fire season" is a ways off.

Believe it or not, we have watering restrictions here every summer. And we are considerable wetter than Seattle.

When I was a kid we rented a drawer in an industrial freezer to store meat and I had to go with my mom once a week to get hamburger and roasts and such. It was so cold it hurt!! It had a fan blowing too. I still remember it. I have never been that cold.

It is supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow around here. I'll go ride in remembrance of those that can't.

Dallas is surrounded by suburb towns one of which has implemented permanent water restrictions. In Texas we are no stranger to drought or water restrictions but a permanent water restriction or one that is in place with no water emergence is just asking to be ignored. It will, in all likelihood, continued to be ignored even when it is actually needed.

I should post this to What Gets My Goat!

Our restrictions are really for lawn and garden watering. You can water but on certain days and specific hours. There are monetary penalties to contraventions. What I do see here though, is that people will make sure they water every day they are allowed and pretty much the whole time they are allowed. That being the case, they are way over watering. My lawn is like a golf green (I am anal about this. Straight lines and all). I only water once a week in the heat of the summer and most often by hand for a couple hours. Very little if any runs down the street. But I do wash my vehicles a lot. My bad for that. I think in the next year or two, I am going to sink a sand point and put a pump in my shed. Water table in the ground is very high here.

Lol! I spend approx 8 hrs a day on snowshoes all winter for work. I'm just happy that there is a crust now to hold me up.
My cousin lives in Edenborough, Scotland & said it was +2 yesterday. The entire city was shut down! I laughed, & told her that we Canadians would also be cold at +2... In July...

What can I say! It's a Canadian thing...!

the low we hit was -35 our high this week was 23 snow, ice and a few days we had rain/sleet... starting the car some mornings sounds like trying to turn over maple syrup that has been in the freezer for a year.... snow shoes and grippers are the tools of the season.... lots of firewood cut stacked and burned out at the farm. global warming isn't all about warming. it is about the extreme weather conditions... anyway, the farmers almanac didn't say anything other than " it is going to be colder than a well diggers ass " as a prediction...
