so removing grips seemed easy, it wasn't. the previous owner put on heated grips, problem 1. he glued them on 2. under the rubber was a plastic shell w/ wire going around it. Couldnt get anything in between grip and bar because of a plastic ring part of grip at end, no air compressor but doubt could even get nozzle under it.

    solution clutch side:

if you have a surgeons precision with a dremel as i do you will only barely mark up the bar. once i made the cut i used two screw drivers and using my super human strength i snapped the plastic sheath and slid grip off, you can see some of the plastic from grip still glued to bar.

Thottle side, after open grip with a razor and wire cutters only to determine that yes it is a full plastic shell under rubber.

    buy this and replace:

Why would any turd glue on grips. Sure, they have to be tight, but glue tight, I don't think so. Now that you have them off, and I assume are putting new ones on, clean up that old glue crap from the handlebars really good, and just use compressed air to put them back on. I know you said you don't have a compressor but maybe you know someone close by who has one. The grips themselves go on very quickly, normal ones anyways. Can't say I know about the heated ones.

Dark and Stormies are a gud drink, but you gota use Black Seal. Anyway, I am not a fan of heated grips on the Bavarian bikes, always was a hassel-hoff to get them off! Anyway, Cheers and warm and healthy new years riding ; )

Had to look that one up. I think I bought a jug of that Black Seal at the Shannon Airport once. Never had heated grips on any bike. This thread may turn into a book on how to remove them from bikes that don't even exist. ;)

Ironic timing. I just came in from installing heard grips on my VFR. I was debating wether or not to glue them on. Gluing on grips seems weird to me. This thread settled it for me. I don't want to use a VFRworld torq wrench (C4, wrecking ball and Nepalm) to remove them.

    Great pics.

Could be that those particular grips needed to be "glued" on according to the manufacturers instructions. Not gluing them on may void any warrantee The residue on the bars looks like contact, or trim cement both of which are soluble even when cure with almost any hot solvent the best being toluene.

I am liking the Napalm solution. Uber heated grips.
