Rotors warped. Buy oem size or upgrade?

I'm glad to see someone has tried them. I KNOW there's better options out there. I was looking for a budget upgrade. I have f2 rotors and calipers but it didn't make sense to have smaller discs AND calipers on a heavier bike. I would love f2 floating calipers but it's just not a smart move financially. I appreciate all the responses. Don't worry I won't be taking this bike to any shop. All work with be done by me. And thanks for that info about the free manual!

I just installed the same rotors. We'll call them the Ebay specials. I also got some braided brake lines for Christmas. I can't wait to try them in the coming days before new years. Braking was hard and unresponsive. At 30K miles the OEM disks are not grooved too bad but are not smooth either. I have to wonder if the weight loss will make the front end come up any easier, LOL

Make sure you break them in easy. They can glaze pretty easily!

The brake lines were a failure as they weep at the T junction. Just purchased some Gafler brake lines instead. I am at a loss regarding the rear brake disc. What I thought was an easy swap apparently requires the dis assembly of the whole carrier. If that is the case, how do I support the bike? I can't use the pit bull stand while I remove the carrier. The pipes are in the way to block it up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

 

Thats a great idea, but my garage has a sheet rock ceiling. Maybe I may have to remove the fairing and block it up on the frame. Does that confirm the carrier does have to be removed?

 

Im going to put off the brake disc and focus on the brake line replacement. The new Gaflers pair for the front just showed up and I installed them. Bleeding these takes some time. Someone told me to jiggle the lines, tap on the calipers etc. The trick is to get the air to work its way out of the small corners. There seems to be a valve in the master cyl. preventing air from burping out very well. I hope to be done soon as the weather here is perfect for a nice ride. Nor Cal in January is usually not so dry.

 

You can wrap a rag around your master cylinder and have some water standing by, and crack the bango bolt to the master cyclinder, this I usually leave as a last resort as I hate brake fluid. How is your master cylinder? Maybe you need to re-build it. You can remove your brake lever and carefully pry oot that little rubber sleave and see if you got crap in there, if so, you may wana consider taking it apart and freshening up things. Calipers are suspect to the same stuff as 2 decade old brakes can get nasty...Cheers.

 

I'm glad someone has used the Chinese made rotors and says they work fine as I'm about to fit them to my 5th gen I'm doing a delink/brake upgrade on and wondered if they were ok. My original rotors are still fine but I thought I would go all out and stick these new wave ones on. Time will tell. Cheers

 

I have Chinese, petal rotors on my 5th gen. I bought it with them on there. They need to warm up in the morning, but one or two stops is enough to get heat into them. Once the weather warms up a little (not freezing in the morning) there is no "warm up" stop necessary. Never had any fade and they stay true.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm always dubious about these Chinese rotors even after googling them and seeing that others have had decent results with them on other makes but couldn't find anyone who had used them on a 5th gen vfr. My original discs still have plenty of meat on them and no scoring so I'll keep them as spares just incase I get a Friday arvo built Chinese rotor. Hehe. Cheers.

 

Ordered a rear disc the other day as the guy that owned it before the kid I got if from ran the rear pads down to metal then put a 1+ mm deep gouge into the rotor. Chinese rotor= $50.00us shipping included, EBC= $168.00+ Shipping, Honda OEM= $258.00. so I went cheap :biggrin-new:

 

My front rotors squeal like a pig when I come to a stop. I don't know if it's my pads, rotors or both.

Brake Part Replacement


Brakes work fine. Still have some break in miles to go, but so far so good. Still need to work on the routing of the new front lines.

 

What pads are you running? I have Braking but I'm thinking of switching to EBC.
