So Reg was kind enough to wonder in a thread whether Scubalong or I have a higher count on bike drops. So lets see who else have butter on their paws.

If you have balls to admit your mistakes, post up your drops. You can provide details as to where and how. Please take all the literary liberties you wish in describing the event.

I will keep a running tab on who and their number of follies on this first post to this thread as you post them up. All I ask, is that if you have a drop already posted, and add to this say months later, give me a heads up. Otherwise I won't be able to keep track if you are there or not already.

I will do a synopsis of my couple or few drops later tonight.

0 drops. BOOM. I'm literally going to buy a 5th gen this year and drop it on the first day because of the bad ju-ju coming from this thread. :tape:

    Hmmmmm, let's see.

Bike #1. 1984 CB450 Nighthawk. Fell over three times whilst learning to ride. Bike had a non functioning side stand switch as the PO did not like the option and I took off twice forgetting the kick stand. Need I say more. Third time I grabbed too much front brake while turning around in gravel. Dumb ASS I was.

Bike #2. 1985 CB750 Nighthawk. Took off center stand while standing beside bike on left side. Had put kickstand down first and when bike came down off center stand it hit the side stand and rather quickly adopted a horizontal position on its right side with me lying atop it. My best friend Doug came out of the house and the first words out of his mouth were, "Drop your bike, Bill". Without missing a beat I replied, "Nope, felt like taking a nap on the grass and thought the bike would make a good mattress." HERE'S YOUR SIGN............

Last bike. 97 VFR750. Set bike on side stand at a local car dealer while picking up a vehicle, and when I came back after twenty minutes the bike was lying on its side with the kickstand in a rather deep hole in the 95 degree asphalt. On separate occasion in similar heat, I thought hmmm, fell over once so I'll put bike up on center stand in shade. NOPE, that didn't work either. Came back after about an hour and once again bike was horizontal with two rather large chunks of hot asphalt wrapped around both posts of the center stand. Grrrrrrrr. Miraculously, this one was incredibly slow as there was no damage to the fairings and only some minor gouges in the bottom of the right passenger foot peg and the right bar end. Stood the bike up and knocked the chunks of asphalt off with the lug wrench from the tool kit and found NO damage to the plastic at all. Much celebration.

Since then, no incidents to speak of. And I now leave a kick stand puck under the side stand whenever I park it ANYWHERE in the heat. Dat shit ain't happenin' no third time. Uh, uh, no way!!!!!

Whollly crap.:jaw: You need to step back and write a whole dissertation on each one of ( I would guess) your MANY drops. I know you have put your bike down a few times but never realized it was that many times….

2 for me. Once riding through a parking lot and it had just rained. Didn't even see the pothole that ate my front tire. Thankfully I was only 3-4 MPH. Second time I was loading my bike to go to VA and I rented a trailer to bring my bike with me. I thought I had enough "scope" on the ramps going into the trailer. Well I high-centered and the bike fell over. Lucky for me my body broke its fall. Still it put some scratches on her ….

I've ridden many bikes, but have only dropped the ones I've owned.
1- 2003 gixxer 750. One drop making a tight left turn.

2- 2001 Magna VF 750. I was on the bike ready to take off and tried to pick up a glove that had fallen on the ground. Couldn't reach it and decided to just put the bike on its side stand, had forgotten it was already up.

3- 2004 VFR 800A. Pulled the clutch in, put the bike in gear and started letting the clutch out and revving. Lost it! I forgot to take the disc lock off.

That sums up the last 5 years. I don't think I want to tell the story of my last thirty years riding.

OK. Let’s see. First of all, understand, I have quite serious back issues so if the bike starts to go, I make only a token effort to hold it up. I rather gently guide it down to a softer drop, then ,get help lifting it. My last go around with my back, I was bed ridden for a couple days in ER with no feelings below the waist, so that was kind of aa scary situation.

    1. Brand spanking new. Had my learners permit and gently nudged the curb as I was pulling in to park. Fucking cabbie parked right behind me watched the whole thing and did not bother to lend a hand righting it. He just drove away. What an asshole! But the guy with the loud boom box Mustang stopped, and the grungy kid on the skateboard stopped to help to. Kinda throws a wrench into our usual stereo typing doesn’t it.

    2. At a traffic light in a left turn lane. I was stopped and it just got away from me. Guy behind me helped me right the bike.

    3. In the underground parkade at work after riding through some snow. Again, I was stopped and it just got away on me. Had to get one of my subordinates to come in to help me pick it up.

    4. R3, 2008 I think. Was the Sunday ride on my way home on a raod commonly refered to as Reggie’s Driveway. Was running second in the group trying to keep pace with Reg. WRONG! Was coming around a decreasing radius curve, up hill, and around a knoll. An old Ford Econoline van (looked like Ironside’s van if you are old enough to remember that) was coming the other way. I looked at it, and then immediately suffered a severe case of target fixation and headed right for the old guy driving that with the wide eyes and mouth wide open. Fortunately he got over to the right and I got stopped and laid it down. I think it was Flailer who was behind me and helped me lift the bike. Maybe others too. There were about 10 of us on that ride. I haven’t heard hide nor tail from Flailer for quite some time here now.

    5. Got caught in a huge dump of snow on my way to work one morning early. When I left the house it was dry and cold. By time I was half way to work visibility was down to a couple hundred meters in heavy wet slippery snow on the freeway. I nursed the bike off the freeway with my feet out to the side, sort of like a double outrigger. Pulled into a gas bar, where the bike slipped out from under me. I was doing maybe ½ MPH. Trucker who was delivering fuel there helped me lift it. Left the bike there and again called one of my subordinates to come and rescue me.

    6. In the local Sears parking lot. Was just turning too sharp and lost balance. Down she went.

    7. In my driveway when I thought the side stand was down. Well it wasn’t. Down she went.

    8. The worst of all. I just had the bike re-painted and was loading it up on the truck to take it in for the graphics. Well folks, do not ride your bike up ramps. Fell off the ramps half way up and the bike landed partially on me. About $2500.00 damage and dislocated ribs. This was not too long before I was to head out on my 5 week retirement tour to R3, 2012. What a bunch of shit I went through with the insurance company. I could have saved both them and me a lot of money on that one but got so frustrated with some bitch on the phone who barely spoke English, I just said fuck it. I will pay the deductible and you can pay high priced professionals to fix it with brand new consumer priced parts.

    9. Which brings me to last time in Oceanside Ca, where Long just up and took off leaving me behind. I was loaded to the hilt and again lost my balance at a stop and down I went. Guy behind me lent a hand righting the bike. Long did come back about 10 minutes later when he finally looked in his mirrors and saw I was not there. We were on our way to meet Derstuka and were heading to Mexico.

Oh, I like it, Randy found an asshole button.

Hmmmm, didn't think we were counting the loading the bike in a pickup drops. Make that 7 for zoom-zoom. Of course this one was my buddy Doug's fault since it was his bike. When doing up the tie downs He thought I had it, I thought he had it, but it was all OK in the end. The truck caught it. Wait, does that count as a drop, since it never made it to the ground??

    For the VFR I have:
Low side on left at 30ish, high side in front of driveway, dropped unloading from truck, and dropped once when parking on roadside to take picture on the road coming from fort hunter-liggett.
So that's 4 on the VFR. There might be a 5. Oh wait, yeah I remember the first drop, well it fell to the side and hit a post so it didn't fall all the way, but it did dent my tank.

On the BMW, one drop so far in the Salton Sea doing donuts.

On the YZ there have been several but it's kind of expected on a dirt bike.

Humm........ 83 GS400 dropped twice, First time was when I was learning to ride and dumped it in the parking lot I was learning in. Second time was the day after I got my license by a bag of foam that blew across the road (about the size of a car) and took out my front wheel............. does falling off a pocket bike in gravel count ????

Phew - that halved my count. I have a feeling R&G have got me on their favourite customers list. On the VFR its now 5 tip overs and one lowside on a roundabout coated with diesel. That stuff is so slippery I fell over again just trying to get up and inspect the damage - thankfully apart from scuffed sliders there was not a mark on the VFR  but the bruise on my leg and ego took ages to clear :embarassed:.

Can I jump in on this?????

    1984 Honda CB650 (Once):
Ran out of gas along Highway 99 just north of Bakersfield, CA. I was pushing the bike along the highway oh, I don't know, the FOOKING MILE to the gas station haha. I was on the left of the bike, and it went right. So, down it went.

1994 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6 (Four times):
Let's see... oh yeah this bike was FOOKING BRAND SPANKING NEW when I pulled up in front of my old high school in the afternoon as school let out. I was there to pick up a girl I knew. Obviously, I was doing my best to get other chicks to look at me, with some success! Being the dumbass I am, I forgot to lower the kickstand when I got off the bike. Man Card lost 30 points automatically...

Giving my niece a ride around the yard as her cute friends watched. The yard was bumpy and we were going slow into a turn. Her weight on the back made it a little to heavy to keep up. Oh well.

Going through a busy intersection in my hometown of Bell Gardens, CA (LA County). It was about 6:45 AM. There was a bus stop on the corner, and plenty of chicks to look at. One morning I stared a little too long and the car ahead of me hit the brakes. I almost hit the car but didn't, though I did manage to lock up the front wheel and slid through literally the ENTIRE intersection. When I stopped I got up and this dude behind me in a white, 1988 Corvette stopped and got out. He asked if I was OK, which I was. He helped me pick up the bike. I started her up and kept going. I wasn't even late for work!

Going around a street corner faster than I should. The traffic was stopped just as I came around. I hit the brakes, and front wheel went over that thick silicone crap they use to "paint" crosswalk lines. Not enough traction to both turn and brake at that lean angle, so I went down on the right side. That one, even though the speed was lower than the long slide above, did more damage. I broke the bracket that held the rear brake lever as well as some other part I can't recall.

    2007 VFR800 Interceptor (Four times):

This one hurts the most because I'm old enough to understand the value of money.

Let's see... oh yeah this bike was FOOKING BRAND SPANKING NEW (to me) when my wife left me almost no room in front of the garage to get the bike out. So, I'm doing my best Austin Powers impression, back and forth. On one of the "backs" the rear wheel went off the edge of the driveway and the bike fell right. It was too far over and the bike too heavy to keep up.

Next one, I had plenty of room to back out of the garage so I jumped on and pushed back. The kickstand (still down) caught the lip of the garage and pushed the bike toward the right. It was too far over and the bike too heavy to keep up (is there an echo in here?).

Third one same as second but on the walkway, not the driveway. Broke the right mirror on this one.

Last one I was at work, stopped in a section of parking lot I don't usually stop in. It was a slight decline (downhill). I jumped off the bike, ran into an office, came back. I was putting on my helmet when I felt something hit my leg! I looked down and it was my bike leaning on me. I literally asked, "WHAT THE FOOK?" I guess what happened was bike was in neutral, and there was just enough slope to let it roll forward. It did, the kickstand went back, and the bike fell over. It scraped my shin pretty good too. I broke BOTH the left mirror and clutch lever on that one. Plus this hot chick from recruiting was going by but she was cool and pretended not to notice. Oh well.

I once heard that far more bikes have been dropped in the parking lot and driveway than on the road. My experience is that it's true.

    Here is the true
Silver VFR going thru a slow sharp turn and lost the bike to the guard rail :scared:
    Black VFR 3 time
The first time when she was new  I just finish giving her a bath and wax. Pushing her back into the garage and I miss my step do to the wet and slippery floor off she went
2nd time I was riding at R3 and want to take picture of the group so I took off ahead of the group and try to find a good spot for pictures. Found a spot pull over, place my side stand down and swing my leg over. As dump as I am the bike were on a slop so as soon as I get off the bike roll forward and pinch me againts the hill side. I stuck there for a while untill a group of Harley dudes that I pass ealier stop and help me to pick up the bike and free me from the wall :pound:
3rd time is in Baja on my last report................
Now as for the GS I think at least a dozen time in Death Valley and the last time I was with Reggie and Jason roaming around Borrego
They left me behind so I try to catch up but hit some deep sand and off I go rolled into a bush and have to drag her out all by myself with a broken wing  I drop her twice just try to catching up with the two mofos. I hate you :chairshot:

1987 Honda Rebel 450 - Zero drops, but one deer strike that I somehow rode out to a stop.

1972 BMW R60/5 - One get-off at very low speed, in town on bad trolley tracks in a turn. My wife was on the back and she stepped off standing - like a champ.

1991 BMW R100 Classic - One low speed crash on wet trolley tracks - in a turn at about 10 mph. That one left me sliding on my side a bit with my engine running - but was not overly damaged in any way. Bike had a skinned up cylinder head but was otherwise OK.

Safe since, knock wood. Avoid trolley tracks if possible!!!
