New to the VFR world, first post. I would like to move my exhaust on My new to me 2000 vfr up to where it runs more with the lines of the bike to expose the rear wheel (Which is one of the best looking parts of the bike to me), has anyone done this? If so have you run into any issues (heat off the exhaust..)? I do have the full GIVI Monokey hard bag system on it with a Delkevic carbon exhaust. Any pics or input would be great! Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.

Many of us have a "high mount" exhaust, and it sounds like that's what you're looking for. There are plenty of options out there for the VFR's. What's best? That's like the Dodge vs. Ford. vs. Chevy. No one will ever agree.

I can't comment how it will work with the Givi, though. But there's no way you're the only one who has the Givi and runs a high mount exhaust. Someone is bound to come along soon who will be more enlightening then me.

Thanks, it looks like it has plenty of room under the Givi bags to move up. Was wondering if there is a exhaust kit or do I need to find someone to fab a new pipe...

I believe what you need is a "mid pipe". This is the one that attaches to your header after the cat, and would make the swing upward. Of course, you could also have someone fab you a custom pipe as well.

Not the best picture, but you can see the my pipe.

I made one myself & I'm just about to send it to an exhaust shop to make a one piece replica, as mine is in two pieces, estimated cost is 50GBP + shipping. Won't be back until after christmas, but I'll post a pic once its done & fitted.

Thats it! Looks fantastic, just what I was looking to do. Once you have the mid pipe done, was it hard to rebolt it to the subframe? Did you use the existing fastner (Maybe invert it) or have to make somthing elese? Thanks again for the pic. If you don't mind me asking, was it hard to make the mid pipe?

I don't know the details on the making of the pipe. Its an older system, to be honest. If I recall, I thought the mid-pipe was provided by 2 Brothers Racing and attached to the header and was secured via "heavy duty" springs. Then the can itself attaches to the mid-pipe with springs again. There are "nubs" (??) that are welded onto the pipe and can that allow for easy attachment. The can is then secured to the frame via a strap that gets bolted to the frame.

I know that 2 Brothers still sells high mount exhausts, but I didn't research on whether or not they include the mid pipe. You mentioned you had a Delkevic, so my suggestion would be to contact them and ask them if they have the pipe.

You will need a mount strap. You can make one yourself from some stainless strap, but you also need a heat resistant rub strip for the inside or it can mar the exhaust can.

When I bought my bike it came with a Micron CF muffler. I changed out the can but used the existing mid-pipe. My Supertrapp came with a mount strap that I just bent differently so I could use a longer bolt to attach to my subframe.

I just purchased a new to me 1999 VFR800FI-X. Been in the garage past few days whilst i tinker with it, transferring bits and pieces from my old bike to new. I should be receiving my Delkevic stubby hi mount exhaust and link pipe today. Purchased from eBay for £130. Wanted that exposed wheel look as well as a good V4 tune to enjoy the ride with :)
