    Hello.

I test drove a 2006 vfr800 yesterday and am considering purchasing it. I noticed that when the clutch was engaged while the bike was in neutral (engine running), there was a whirring sound. It went away when the clutch was let back out. Is this a normal sound?

The bike only had 4300 miles on it.

    thanks for any insight.

The fluid might need to be flush.
When the oil and the clutch fluid is old it will cause the clutch to engage prematurelly. I found new fluid fix the issue on my bike
Damn that bike is brand new
:welcome: to the madness  good luck with the purchase. Any other question feel free to ask.

Yep my '06 does exactly the same thing. Only noticed it last week. I bought mine a couple of months ago. I have 30,000kms on the clock, which is a bit over 18,500 miles.

I dunno if it's normal or we share the same issue however.

Mine is just the opposite...mine rattles in neutral after you let the clutch out.

SOrry. That's what I mean. When the transmission is in neutral and I squeeze the clutch lever, all is quiet. But when I let the lever out, I get a rattle. Apparently it's normal….

Yep, same noise with my 2010 model. You notice it at first, then you tend to get used to it. Nothing to worry about.

My 3rd gen did exactly that until I synced carbs. Once I did a good sync, all was quiet.

May need a starter valve sync - equivalent to a carb sync on fuel injected models.

^^ Zackly right ! Proper carb or FI throttleplate synch keeps things spinning smoother at idle and just-above so clutch plates don't jiggle about causing noise and vibration as others said.:sneakiness:

What does your blessed manual specify regarding miliage-based synch re-checks and adjustment ?
