People gotta stop being so sensitive. It's just an opinion; take it, leave it, ignore it, whatever.

You're right I did cherry pick the answers- forgot to mention removing the fuel tank! LOFL

Your point about a trip to the store is a real hoot- where do you think they sell t stats? And slipping a piece of sheet out in the spring will be a real chore!

    Thanks for the laughs!

By the way, I wouldn't bother replying if it was, in fact, just your opinion, but it was your opinion laced with a "you're a dumbass for not thinking like me" undertone. Easy to jam pile someone whilst hiding behind a keyboard innit?

    Have a good one.

I don't say anything I wouldn't say to anyone's face. Always been a rule instilled by my old man.

There is no reason to remove carbs or tank for the thermostat, well at least I didn't. I have a numbered temp gauge and I never see anything above 180 but all of my fairings are gone.

Anybody got a source for waterproof cardboard short of using carrot wax?

WTF do yas do if there's no temp gauge?

If I rode around in the freezing cold like today in Ogeron and wanted to construct a shroud for various radiators. seems like a cut up pop can might work or if ya have a favorite other canned beverage that needs some promotion, that might be good

Tapewise, use gaffers tape. It doesn't leave the sticky stuff behind.

"WTF do yas do if there's no temp gauge?"
My old man and I were talking about this the other day. On my air cooled 500 with no gauge I never give the engine temperature a 2nd thought, the VFR I watch like a hawk and fret about it if it even gets remotely warm.
My attitude to this whole issue (totally incorrect, I know) is this. Running to cool will probably cause damage to your motor in the long run, overheating will damage it now. Bear in mind that where I live it seldom gets below about 10 degrees C.

Got an aircooled SR500 and a 1000cc airhead boxer. Neither are much of a problem heatwise in the Pacific NW. Traffic tie ups in the large metro areas can be testy. The local gendarmes seem to think that one agency can't do a proper investigation of a fender bender so they all show up for a donut fest.. ;)

Learning to bypass and knocking the mud and roadkill from between the fins helps too..

Saftey Wire is neat too to hold on a makeshift shroud, could probably do something creative with zip-ties. Yep, too much information clouds the mind. Wait till all those cars and other stuff they are manufacturing now go off warranty and the electronic who-ha's go bad. Then your really gona be up the creek wtihoot a paddle  Rode my viffer today on a 40 mile stop and go ride, fan came on as I got back to the house. Temp gauge was in the middle? Dont really look at it that much, its not digital so its not as much fun to observe I guess.

No high-jacking or heavens forbid (derailment) going on here either :rambo:

This thread was really handy. I was wondering why my temp gauge is staying so low.
