sounds annoying too. So for you Rocket, the PC cleared that up?

Guys, is this just on the clutch bike or does the DCT model have the same characteristics?

Watched a few more reviews of the DCT last night. Looks like a cool gadget to have but I'm not sure I'd be happy in the long run. Having no clutch 'leever' (gotta luv them Brits!) and gear shifter might wear on me after a while. I do like the paddles tho.

Both the DCT and the manual do the same thing. Where the fueling problem was really annoying for me was when I was riding through my work complex and had to go 15mph in 1st for a long distance. It was like I couldnt get the throttle to run smooth. It would be really snatchy and was kind of embarrassing because I looked like the biggest motorcycle noob riding it. At the time there was not a lot of information on the bike out about the problem and I thought it was driveshaft lash. Really bad driveshaft lash. Like there was a buttload of play in the gears or I had a bad shaft joint. The PC cleared this up pretty good but it was cleared up 100% with the GPS sensor modification.

There was also a lot of engine ping in first and second at low speed. It sounded like it was running real lean. The PC also cleared that up pretty good. The GPS mod cleared that up 100%.

Why would Honda do this? What's the purpose?

Its a super easy mod. Just a matter of cutting the 1 and 2 gear wires at the gps harness and splicing them into any of the 2-6 gear wires to the ecu. I think the thread on how to do it is on the VFRD forum in the 7th gen section as a sticky.

I think the consensus is to keep the rear from spinning up in those gears (aka ghetto traction control )

By no means is it a pain in the ass it just voids your warranty that is my issue with it. Then again cutting the stock muffler probably voids warranty and removing the flapper is on that list too. But Honda has to prove the modifications I have done are what caused the failure. A muffler is hardly changing the engine in the scope of things but the GPS is changing things major. That is my view. Depends on the dealer and how much of a dick they want to be,I guess???

I have about a 1/4 mile of 15mph putting once I arrive at my workplace. Sounds to me like I'll have issues going that speed with the stock ecu settings. ...unless I splice.

I'll chime in that I LOVE my 2010 (as it is now). The 1st & 2nd gear thing was a big issue for me, but mine has been "fixed". Also, as a bigger guy (230 lbs) the rear suspension was terrible for me for aggressive riding. I sold my old Penske and installed an Ohlins (could have gone cheaper, but felt like splurging on this otherwise FANTASTIC machine).

Now, the bike is 95% perfect! ...the only remaining gripe is the range, and that's just an annoyance, not a deal breaker. ...but 150 mile range is that last 5%; if I could get 200-220 miles out of a tank I'd give it the full 100%.

I have just shy of 12k miles and am on my 4th set of tires (oh yeah, it will EAT tires!). lol ...the bike is simply great! If you enjoy riding smoothly, you'll want to fix the 1st & 2nd gear thing. It sucks that Honda won't fix it, but it's not that hard to rectify, and IMO it really was dangerous the way it was before! ...epic fail from Honda on that one!

All that said, I would gladly buy this bike again (and do everything I've done to it, all over again)! :)

Yes it is a good bike. I put the Z-bomb (cheap fix too) on mine and it fixed my complaints about the on off throttle issue. For me that is. My only gripe left is the suspension...it seems no matter how I set the front it feels either harsh or too soft. I may put some different, progressive springs in it and see what that does.

At first the linked braking annoyed me, but after a few thousand miles I don't even notice it that much anymore. The ABS seems to stay out of the way. I don't like electronic aids on my bikes, but this one doesn't come on to early like some of them I've ridden.

Ohlins makes front fork springs for the VFR ( 2 diffeent spring rates, parts #'s 08795-10 and 08795-11) these are the only ones i have found...bought the heavier 08795-11 going to have them installed next week several manufacturers make a rear shock, Ohlins HO-013 is $1000 i'm still saving for that
i thought that i'd hate the combined brakes but i really like them !!!
i have the z-bomb and Z-Fi fuel controller with Akro slip on and K&N...it now runs like i expected it too when it came from the factory, though the standard map seems to need a tweek...going to dyno tune over winter.....love this bike

Every Motorcycle made is a compromise. You can nit pick them all. I can only afford one motorcycle, and after 9 other bikes over the last 39 years with 600,000 + miles of riding, this one ticks all the boxes for me!

I bought a used 2010 VFR1200F with 4K on it. The previous owner had the Z-bomb (1 & 2 gear fix) and PCIII (customized fuel timming) installed. On my first long ride home, the PCIII fried and the bike wouldn't start. Had the PC unplugged and the 50A fuse replaced. Now the bike is great. When riding below 15-20 mph, I shift to 2nd and ride it smoothly that way. Take-offs are breathtaking. I've ridden about 7 different bikes through the years and this rocket is for real. The braking is also superb and gives you a lot of confidence. Also, this is the first bike I've had that provides effortless twists and turns whenever needed especially since it weighs nearly 600 lbs. Smooth as silk in turns after you get used to it and accept the ease of handling. Finally, before buying any bike, you must ride it first. Do it a couple of times for as long as you need to make sure you will like the ride. I once bought a cruiser and while riding it home, I knew I was going to sell it very soon. Good luck.

Let me start by saying I've ridden a 2000 VFR and still own a 2006 VFR and had no intentions of getting rid of it when I bought my manual 2010. After a year and a half and 8000 miles, I have very little reason to keep the 2006 as the big Veefer is all I need at this point. Sure the 800 seemed to handle better in the mts but all it took was some getting used to and I now say the bigger bike handles even better (overall), especially when pulling out of a sharp turn. The bigger bike is so much smoother and far more powerful.
This is not meant to compare the 2 bikes head to head (apples and oranges).
The point I'm making is that I absolutely love the 1200 for many reasons and have no regrets.

For me, I do like the bike, but am still frustrated by the arrogance of Honda for treating us like fools. The 1st, 2nd gear issue is just plain small minded and displays the contempt with which they regard their customers. Other than that, the other issues I see with the beast are: Weak fairing panels and fasteners, a short front mudguard that seems intended to wreck your radiator and fill the fins with crap, and not enough range.

With any bike you are going to want a Cox Radiator guard.

1st/2nd is solved for very little money.
