Does anybody here know of anyone or anyplace that makes reproduction tail sections for the 86 VFR's? Mine like many others I've seen is cracked in more than one place and I'd like to replace it if I can find a good reproduction part whether it be made of fiberglass or whatever. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Moose

    Would be nice, but...........

I've had to add inside braces to that piece and alot of superglue to reinforce cracks on almost every tail section i've owned. Weight of taillight bouncing up and down helps cracks spread.

Surely some bright lad could have these parts flying out of a 3-D printer quick as cookies from Kebler.

What you can't replace you learn to repair.

Maybe I will take up fiberglass fabrication as a hobby in this failing retirement phase I am presently in. Seems there are lots of people who are looking for parts that are note made in China.

A side benefit is I could get stoned from the fumes while I made a little extra pocket money. And I could claim the stuff as a tax write off too!

Has anyone ever bought from them from the USA? How does that work, purchase it on line, and they ship it?

I think it sucks that there is no one that makes the rear tail section for 86-87 VFR's!

Does anyone one know if there is another tail section that will work with our sub frames, like a VFR400, or something...

The closest I have come is Airtech and Beasley Composites.. Airtech said if they could get a hold of a nice set they could make a mold, and that they have had a lot of calls about it lately. Beasley said that they could possibly make one from a set that was repaired, kind of a one off thing but it would be pricey.

ps. my next major purchase will be a 3d printer. There will be a 3d printer available to the public ( forgot which company) that's user friendly, coming out by like, December. Money wel spent IMO for someone with a creative mind

B4 you can make any parts, a 3-D laser scan converting dimensions into computer lingo is required.

You'll need to pay lots to the guys with the scanners to get your data (11/13) . That will need to change ! Scan and build at home, no fumes, just the sound of yer robot working while yer elsewhere. :party2:

I would suggest repairing it, there is a plastic repair kit you can get through Colorrite that works like a champ. Stuff is stronger than the original plastic and can be molded into shapes. I used to repair missing mounting tabs on my RZ350 side panels.

The kit comes with a bottle of powder, and the liquid reactant. You mix them and have about 15 to 30 minutes of time to apply. Once hard it becomes one with the original ABS plastic. Then sand to shape and paint.

Sorry, I didn't mean to mis-lead the membership...... The parts pictured are for future projects, not really for sale -- I just happen to have an extra tail section I don't expect to need; and if I did sell it, I'd prefer to get one in exchange to refurbish. The exhausts in the photo are for another project, an XL500, though I do have my own small collection of 2d gen pipes :sneakiness:

Speaking of pipes, I see a very nice, barely used set just went for good money on ebay, he was asking $350 obo. Our parts & pieces are getting expensive....

If it's feasible from a delivery standpoint, I'm able to do ABS plastic welding on these body parts, and have saved several pieces from the scrap bin. I'd be willing to help you out if it makes sense to get them back and forth. I'm located in Antioch IL, 60002.

P.S. A couple photos of a 3d gen I'm piecing back together into a sort of street fighter. It had so much missing/mangled bodywork that I just decided to chop it further:

Oh, and the deal on the tailpiece would be $110 exchange (for a repairable piece) including shipping CONUS. The part is repaired and professionally painted and clear coated. It will need your tail light brackets riveted in place and stripes applied. Here's a link to some photos:

Good eye, Tom. Here's a link to my page on the TDM, some VFRs and others:
    https://sites.google.com/site/joesceptor/

The TDM's a beauty; near perfect cosmetically & mechanically. Lots of subtle and some obvious farkles, including stripped and polished rims and Lazer exhaust. A fun, all-around bike that was 20 years ahead of its time. Here's a photo gallery of the TDM:
