Hello, New guy here. My neighbor gave me a 85 vf700f a couple weeks ago. Needs some love, first on the list is a ng clutch master cylinder. I wanted to know if anyone here has used a new unit off a newer bike. I'm tying to do this project on the cheap. Thats how they all start!

I'm sure other mc's would work, but why not rebuild wacha have with new seals ?? Did you ever hear the engine run ?? Suggest you try a compression test first so you know if you have a good one..........or not. :sour:

    The pewter/gray looks great.

The master that I have now has a home made cover so I would at least have to find I used one $40-$50. Then the rebuild kits are $35-$45. If I could find a new one for $75 I would just go that way. I personally have not heard it run but the neighbor says he had it going a few weeks ago. Its also missing the ignition. No its not stolen! A compression test sounds like a good idea.

Consider the next wise idea to remove valve covers and inspect cams for possible damage.

After that would be a flush out and cleaning of the fuel tank looking for signs of rust. Cooling system too.

    Just for starters.......

MC cover missing ?? 99% of 'cycle salvage yards in the USA have exactly what you need, cheap. If you find a ruined screw hole on the mc, cheaper to replace than repair.

like aboove poo-ster sed, cheap massa cover is easy and cheap from a salvage yard. Your gona need a rebuild kit from at least K&L for the master, as well as your clutch slave.

Side Bar: I have always done better with new clutch slaves as opossed to trying to refurbish old ones. You can try to clean the bore and get a rebuild kit.

We have friends that are sailing around the world on a 57 foot sail boat. We were having a conversation aboot paint and such, she told me how much the paint cost to do the bottom of her boat, I said, "I guess if you have to ask how much it costs, sailing is'nt for you." She said, "truer words have never been spoken."

Btw, they are millionaires. Make your own inferences. Good Luck.
