My blinkers stop working during a ride, with the behind dash relay making sick clicking sounds but no indicator lights flashing either left or right.

After investigating the obvious first like fuse and the 4 bulbs ( didn't think it the fuse as the horn still worked ) had assumed it must be the relay or wiring ( had bottomed out over a large backroad dip during the ride ) so once home rolled up my sleaves and removed the side then front fairings.

After checking the wiring out with voltmeter based on workshop manual determined the relay wasn't being fed enough juice, anyway while holding the indicator switch hard left rather than as normal clicking both ways on I supprised myself with a single Flash, after puzzling about it for a a few seconds as had been probing the front right winker light with multimeter I let off a loud " Dohhh ".

    Before you do all this:

Yes it was the switch that had gotten dirty contacts or something so worked in a good squirt both sides of WD40 and presto blinkers are working like new again.

    Try this:

My Blinkers stopped Working again on a ride yesterday, the Turn signal switch felt a little dicky so no prob I thought will just spray the switch with contact cleaner again...

The Turn signal switch feeling nice and clicky again after contact spray but the Winkers still didn't work so checked the 10 amp Fuse finding it also does the brake lights and horn which when tested also didn't work ? :confused-new:

OK changed the 10 amp fuse, instant blow h'mmm thought about it then remembered had adjusted the throttle grip brake lever angle a little down the day before and close inspection found the tag insulation was pushed against the bar, re-adjusted the throttle grip a little then hay presto with new fuse all was working again. :smile-new:

Strange it was all working the day before on a ride so was a delayed re-action still when things go wrong it's good to think about recent changes you make before randomly ripping things apart.

That reminds me, I need to clean out my controls.
Dirty switch made my lights turn off on a foggy night ride when switching from high to low beams.

    That was in July...

I had that happen on mine, with my HIDs. Ended up replacing the whole assembly to mitigate the risk.

IMO, I'd avoid WD40. Open that sucker up, clean the contacts with electronics cleaner, and then put a dab of dielectric grease on it.

WD40 is petrol based, so is an organic solvent that can, over time, destroy the plastic mechanisms inside.

    Good point.

Admit using WD40 the first time because that's what I had handy and good for keeping pigeons away but have used Contact Cleaner ever since when cleaning plugs or switch contacts.
