So i was riding home tonight on this dark and stormy night when my headlight went out. I am trying to figure out if there is any kind of a mod that can be done to allow for a different (read cheaper) bulb to be used. I have been fairly disappointed with the amount of light output with the stock bulb anyway, so I am hoping that there is some way to use a different bulb, maybe a blue halogen or something, rather than pay the fortune the local honda shop wants for a new bulb.

I found out which type of bulb to replace it with and went and got one. I replaced the bulb, but after, the light still didn't come one. I re-checked the fuses and they are all fine, I'm at a loss for what to do and I really need to get this fixed. Any ideas at all about what might be wrong?

after starting the bike try giving the starter button a light tap. My VF does something simular occasionally and thats what it usually is...of course dont push the button hard enough to spin the starter over.

Thanks for the tip. Worked like a charm. I only wish I'd have known to do that last night when I was riding home in the dark.

Good to hear yuo fixed the problem of the light coming on. I had a radian that the starter button wouldf stick a little and if you pulled it out just a tad the light would come on. As for a brighter light, Not sure the blue will be brighter. Is your light a composite, meaning the housing stays and only the bulb is replaced or do you replace the housing and all, like on some older model cars? If it is the latter, there are some sylvania bulbs, and I foget off the top what the name is, that are probably birghter than OEM. If you are just replacing the bulb itself (like on newer cars) then I suggest Sylvania Silver Stars. I put a set in my 93 and in my 04 IMpala it is a world of difference over OEM. In the impala, my high beam bulbs are OEM, I can tell a big difference between low and high beams. I hardly ever use my high beams on my imp or on my viffer.
