I have a wrecked 95 750 with olins rear shock..I found a replacement 98 800 with a stock shock...Are both rear shocks interchangable? The measurement is the same 13.25" between mounted bolts but olins is much larger circumference and alot of work to change without knowing!?The 98 seems very soft compared to my memory of my dead bike..and the olins is compression and rebound adjustable..so I want to retain if possible..
    anyone done this swap?

Though I can not say for certain I might suggest sending a PM to Jamie Daugherty. He is a member of this site and a definite guru of all suspension upgrades to VFR's. If anyone could answer your question, he would be a great person to ask. Here is a link. Good luck with your project.

The Penske I mounted on my '98 has larger diameter springs and the shock is larger too. Bolted in fine. --- If your '95 shock fits use it.

    - Your upgrading the front too, right?

I have a used Penske from a 97 VFR750 mounted on my 98 VFR800. Check the parts fiche on line at Bike Bandit and if the shock from a 95 is the same as the shock from a 97 ( I thnk thye are) you should be fine.

Thanks everyone, I did some more tear town and found I have a H0403 olins which is listed on VFR's all the way up to 2012! Im proceeding with the swap and will send pics from some mountain road, when done!
The front of the new bike has stiffer springs, but unknown exact one as the owner could not tell me much except he had had some installed. It is definately stiffer that most others Ive ridden recently.

Interesting. as I read just of late, they do not work. The 98 (5th gen) has a different rise rate due in part to the 5th swing arm pivots is different, ie; back of the engine case. I must look further into this now, as I have a next to new WP off my 97. Crazy that I find this older thread now, my research says it won't fit nor work. but now that's in question as fact.

Not sure if this helps your particular situation RVFR, but my both my wifes 96 VFR750 and my 2000 VFR800 are using one of Jamie D's CBR929 rear shocks. The clearance on the CBR929 shock is certainly tighter on my wife's 96 VFR from the edge of the swingarm hole at the front to edge of the spring but even at full extension of the swing arm it still clears the swing arm hole by the thickness of say a popsicle stick.

Would certainly be worth sending Jamie a message and see if one of the aftermarket shocks might be compatible. I know Jamie machines and installs spacers for the 929 conversion to make up for the shorter length of the 929 shock versus the VFR shock, but I'm not sure what the difference would be between the VFR750 and VFR800.

Quick link to Jamie's site in case you want to shoot him an email. http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/
