I must dissent. :eagerness: That assertion is far from completely accurate itself as a properly-done hand-and-eye bench synch is usually capable of producing quite satisfactory results in many cases, needing little or no refinement.

Wildly inaccurate if it's not set properly, sure.

If you can get a warm engine idling smoothly at about 800 rpm, you know carbs and synch are OK.

You said you cleaned the pilots but did you check the complete circuit? I've had super clean pilots and have found obstructions in the small passages in the carb body. Drove me crazy until I found it... It definitely sounds like the problem is in the pilot circuit somewhere.
    Good luck,
    Jim

oh man.. interesting discussion. When does the motor stall? Or not at all?

With the choke off it is still running high, it's probably not a low air pressure/rich fuel condition, as a choke normally creates. The bike should lean out normally with the choke open (and idle down), or stall with it closed.

If the bike doesn't stall, you're getting too much fuel and are overly rich, where the choke does not stall the bike when the throttle is closed. Then you are too rich and it's the fuel screw is too loose.

I'm sure you had the screws out. So, take them out again, inspect them all for wear, look at the seats too. Remove the caps, get new ones, put screws back back in and back em off evenly, adjust, and so on.

Anway, you're running fine on mid and high range probably, and it' just the idle issue? Right?

Idle is controlled by the pilot fuel screw and you're too rich.

    So.. with the throttle
