My uncle has sold me his minty 84 vf1000f. The carbs needed to be cleaned and rebuilt. He and someone else pulled them off and gave them to me for a rebuild. I'm pretty good with carbs and after a few replacements parts have them ready. This is where the problem comes in. The carbs don't seem to be connected together? The only thing that holds the carb rack together is the fuel tubes. Is this right? The service manual shows screws that hold the 1 and 2 carb together and the 3 and 4 carb together. These carbs don't have this? They are so loose that I can't get them mounted without the synching springs all falling out. Am I missing these screws?

I got them mounted using the plenum already but like I said the sync springs kept falling out. Makes a bench sync almost useless. I guess I'll pull them off again and give it another shot. Very frustrating carbs to work on, and I've worked on a lot of carbs!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll post up some pics when I get it home!

It does seem like something is missing......the carbs are not the easiest to install but I never had the issue you are having. I have a spare set of carbs for my VF1000F out on the work bench....if you like I can take some close up pics and you can compare to what you have.

That would be very helpful. Here is the page from the manual which shows the attaching screws? I definitely don't have those. Does everyone else? Look at the third photo. [IMG]

Nope. I see where the manual show them but your carbs look just like mine. No attaching screws. I ordered new rubber boots for the bottom of the carbs and will be giving this all another shot when they come in two weeks from now.

Cool..good luck with the install. I usually put a small dap of oil in the boots to aide in the install...you can also warm them up a little with a blow dryer to make it easier as well.
