two staight 16 hour days spent reading forums. I just about bought a set of 2003 RC51 forks for a conversion. Then I realized they don`t fit all that well, geomatry, stops, bearings etc. I then stumbled onto a 6th gen forum that recommended CBR600 F4i forks (43mm) that bolt right in. Of course my 5th is 41mm. Question, the F41 forks I can get have all the triple, handlebars and brakes including master cylinder and lever. Will it bolt right into my frame with my new bearings question mark (keyboard is pouched). what about my viffer rotors and wheel, will they need to go. is the offset the same. anything else. I realize I will need stiffer springs, can I use my viffer springs. Also any suggestions for a straight bolt on rear shock with a stiffer spring and more adjustability, perhaps with an external resivour.

I purchased a rear shock replacement for my 2000 VFR from Jamie D. At www.daughertymotorsports.com

Jamie D. Is a member here and is a great guy and his CBR929 shock upgrade made an amazing difference to my bikes handling. Best money I have spent thus far.

+1 for Jamie Daugherty. I'm actually sending him my forks off of my '01 to have him revalve/respring and to add rebound adjusters to the stock forks and have him rebuild a Penske shock I bought off eBay. Last year I had him rebuild a stock 6 Gen ABS shock and provide the stuff to do the forks for my '09 and what a difference that made, no need to fabricate any new components or worry about fitment.

I am typing up a long email for Jamie now. I am giving him my weight, riding style, problems I have been experiencing. I hope to get a quote from him soon. Thank you both again. What a steer.

There are 5th gen RC51 fork conversions, but you have to use SP -1 triples (2000- 2001 RC51) and yes the steering stops have to be dealt with. And add plenty of little fix items to get it all done.

    - If you wanted to use F4i forks, you could buy 6th gen triples and clip-ons and use F4i calipers and master cylinder or also RC51 gear. The 5th gen wheel, rotors work fine. I dont know about the F4i fender.

    - If you wanted to stay at 41mm use super hawk lowers on your 5th gen upper fork tubes and that is another direction.

    - Either way you have to deal with delinking the brakes - Click on the link below for a delink story that I did way back and it will give you some idea on what to do.

There are umpteen USD conversions too.

Still looking for an affordable option.

Thank you all for the great help. After consulting with Jamie Daughtery I realize I can't afford the type of upgrades he provides. Since I am heavy guy, 250 pounds, and occasionally ride two up I know I need springs. From that point I am looking at other possibilities.
    1) Pop in new springs with 15W oil as suggested by my local Honda service center.
    2) Purchase a Race Tech Gold Valve kit and install it with the springs.
    3) Purchase VFR caps and damping rods and install them with the springs.
3b) Add the Gold Valve kit in the future.
I fried a 25,000 machine at work and the boss wants me to pay at least part if not all of the $4500 repair bill. I can't justify expensive upgrades at this time. I also dread riding right now due to the front end pogo-ing all the time. The rear still needs a lot of help, I don't know if it's the fluid or valving but it's not working at all. I know it needs a spring as I have it on the highest setting to adjust the sag to 30mm.
