I have been taking it slow riding my vfr. I have done some mods like having the factory seat refoamed. It just did not work for me. Now it is an inch higher and I love the leg room, it almost feels like the same leg room on my Spyder. I had to have the bike lowered 2 inches so my feet would touch the ground flat. Yes I needed it lowered before the redone seat being an inch higher. I dropped it because my feet weren't able to be flat on the ground. I know the pegs are more likely to scrape in corners but it had to be done. Now I have better control with it lower and my feet are fully on the ground. I did have the R&G Frame sliders installed and I like the way they look.

I did some Canyon riding yesterday and loved it. I did take it slow at first until I felt comfortable, then stepped it up a bit as I got use to it. I put about 150 miles on by the time I got home and I enjoyed every mile. I am glad I installed my Radar and Lazer detector on Friday, I like knowing when cops are around. I have the Adaptive Technologies detector and it works great.
I also added a Puig windshield and a Laminar Lip to help with wind, a fender eliminator, and a Cortech Dryver tank bag. The DAM will be here soon and I have some other things for my mechanic to install.

I put a Fitch fuel catalist in the tank. It is an octane booster. I had one on Spyder and a Infinity G35 and no problems. Now I am using 87 octane, getting better gas mileage, and the same engine performance. I can't wait to do a ride to San Diego to see how many miles I can go on a tank riding the freeway.

After riding vfr for 1,000 miles, I really like this bike, it has great power and handling. As always I will customize it to my liking but that is the fun part. I sat on every sport touring bike out. The BMW f800 GT was the only other bike I liked but I am now sure the vfr was the best choice for me and my situation.

Paint is coming soon. I am trying to get the rims and pegs done next month. Rims will be black with pink and driving pegs/holders all black. I will have surgery in mid December so I want to give my bike to my mechanic to have him take it apart. Then I will take the panels to my paint guy. Then I have to wait a month to let the paint totally dry before I can have the Expel clear bra installed on the front of the bike to protect it from rock chips. I won't be able to ride during my recovery so I will take advantage of the down time.

Its great to hear you have been getting the VFR set up to meet your needs. Don't worry about what others do - what matters is that the bike feels right for you.

I am not sure I would be too reliant on speed gun detectors, especially laser ones, because by the time they warn you , the gun will already have a lock on your speed. A while back someone on here posted some cracking advice, but I failed to bookmark the thread. If you are an enthusiastic rider then you may be better off considering this sort of stealth paint - which folks your-side of the pond can buy by mail like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclxb2y8gHE Suffice to say they won't ship to Europe.

One thing puzzles me - you run 87 octane? Over in Europe the lowest rated fuel is 92 and most is 95 with a few places offering high octane stuff at around 98 to 100. I guess US models are set up for lower grade fuel. I have no idea they would run on the sort of low octane fuel typically sold around only here to farms.

I found a lowering link on eBay. It says the bike can be lowered 3 inches. I only needed 2 inches and my mechanic said that he would not go any further just to be sure anyway.

I have used this detector for 4 years now and it gives me plenty of time to slow down before I pass the cop. I also use it in my car and truck when I am on road trips. My mom and aunt were surprised how well it detected the CHP when went to San Diego in my truck.
CHP now turns there Radar off and paces cars to give tickets, because they know people have these devices, so I am still careful. It has saved me from tickets, and I watched other drivers pass me then get a ticket because they didn't know a CHP was pointing a Lazer detector ahead.

I live in Compton just off the 91 fwy close to Long Beach. I am very familiar with San Diego, I have rode Spyder there many times. I would like to ride with you anyhow, we need to exchange numbers.

A few pointers on laser and radar detectors. They do work. But they are not fail safe. If your laser detector has sounded, it is too late. They have gotten you. It is just a matter if your speed is within their tolerance or not. Radar is another story. They will pick up reflected radar signals. But if the cop is operating the radar unit the way he is supposed to, by time your detector goes off, you are likely just being warned that you are about to be pulled over. You cannot react and lower your speed fast enough to defeat a direct hit with radar.

But yes they do work to a large degree in today's world. We used to set up radar drones all over the place so peoples radar detectors were constantly going off. If my radar's fragmented beam sets off your detector, and you slow down for several miles, then my job was done.

You would be surprised at how many people with radar detectors got speeding tickets from LEOs who properly used their radar devices. I did it quite often.

 Wow has hell frozen over when a cop gives advice on radar detectors?! ha ha ha ha

that's my feeling as well, and radar/laser detectives are really expensive and is pretty much the cost of a speeding ticket. I figure why pay all that money for something that MIGHT work?

Thanks for the advice. I know they are not 100 percent reliable but this one has saved me countless times since I got it in 2009. It is fun because they sit at the freeway overpass and you can't see them until it's to late. My detector has picked them up every time, I slowed down and other people don't so they get the ticket. I still like to sit behind the seeding cars also and let them be the bait, that has worked to.

@ Joey. If no one ever was to get a ticket again, I would be happy as I would likely have accomplished most of what I was out to do at the time. So ya. I will give pointers on some things. Radar detectors actually calm traffic. For the life of me, I don't understand why they are illegal is some jurisdictions. There are hundreds of things that will set those off making someone think there is radar around, then that person slows down. Like leaky transformers or poor ballasts on florescent lights to name a couple. Mission accomplished.

I use a escort radar lazar detect that holds the world record for detecting a radar beam at 14 miles-it has a frequency mode that tells me the code of the radar-I can tell 100% if its a cop sometimes-it cost $500. Its not full proof but very good. I am doing the same thing setting up a vfr 800 2006 to work for me-I am cutting the seat down and may lower the bike to until its setup right-because I used my left foot as a slider-that hurts-I am going the R+G route too and add some adj handle bar grips! I think this is a really great motorcycle-that swing arm is really cool!:black_eyed::tyrannosaurus:
