    G'day Y'all,

The name's Peter, aka Manwell. Live in Brisbane Australia, run an insulation contracting company, and am married with 4 kids between 11 and 16.
Used to work in Bike shops in Brisbane many years ago - I was there when Kawasaki brought out the first Z1000, and CB1100R's first came out. The first bike I ever crashed was a 900 Z1 Kwaka. Didn't even have a licence at that stage. Expensive lesson - that cost me $1000 back then. Raced one of the CB1100R's for a while before deciding to take up flying instead - less risky. Flew for 20 years all over Australia, and at Langkawi in Malaysia. Did a lot of instruction, charter, aerobatics, and Low capacity airline flying. Now my interests are more political - the government here are screwing all bikers in their war with bikies, and they are trying desperately to get us all to bail them out of their state debt by fining us for exceeding ridiculously low speed limits by the smallest of margins and going through yellow lights.

I've got two bikes in the shed - a Red/Black 1984 VF1000F, and a Red/Black 2010 VFR1200F. I bought the VFR in Santa Barbara last year while we were over there for a wedding and rode it around California for a couple of weeks with the missus. Just recently got the bike through compliance here after more than 12 months. Now I can't ride the bloody thing because I've lost my license until Feb next year. Thinking of getting a dirt bike.

Thinking of stripping all the heavy and unnecessary ballast off the VFR and doing something to fix the first and second gear restrictions so it goes a bit better.

You guys have a great forum here, and look forward to chatting with you all later.:smile-new:

Welcome aboard, I sold an old 1100R to buy my VFR (may have been a stupid move I know) Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on almost 30 years of VFR development.

Welcome Skippy. Unless you post pix, how can we rest assured that you are not a hardly doode or even a Vespa Varmit? My son was over in Brisbane for three months a few years ago. He has never been the same.

    G'day from Smellbourne, Peter!

Yeah, I've heard about Qld's knee-jerk reaction and it isn't good. The cops even break up groups of sportbikes that are more than three in number - as if OMC members would be seen dead on a jap bike! With the speeding fines, Qld is just trying to catch up with Victoria, the Nanny State. Fixed speed cameras will only give you 2km/h grace down here.

Anyway, welcome to the nut house! :)

G'day blokes, I acknowledge your comment about Qld just trying to catch up with Vic. You poor bastards have had it tough for a long time... Luckily, I was down there before they got too ridiculous, in 1985 at Point Cook. Only got one ticket on the VF I had at the time - for 174k on the freeway. Never paid it either, because being from Qld they couldn't do much to you back then. Not sure about now though. 2km/h grace is ridiculous when you consider that pre-2006 the tolerance on speedos was +- more than that.

I did post some pictures on the picture page, I'll see if I can work out how to post em here as well.

Tried to upload them to this post, and it stalled. Is there a maximum file size limitation?

    Hi again Peter,

12 months to get the bike registered - sounds almost as bad as the hassle getting my VFR registered in France!

As for adding photos - none of the photos in your gallery are too large. Its simplest if you put a copy of the image you want to upload onto your desktop.

In the quick reply window you need to click on the icon two to the right of the envelope icon.

    choose "from computer"
    click "select files"
navigate to where the picture is on your PC (mine defaults to the desktop)
click on the image(s) you want to add
    click "upload files"

the image(s) will now be embedded in the draft post

Click "advanced" to see the post in preview.

If all is good hit "submit reply"

    and there you go...

    Take care
