Fuel injection cleaner

Was just wondering has anyone used this on there 6 Gen ? I know that they sell it for cars but don't know about for bikes. thanks

 

I've used it, certainly haven't got a clue if it does anything. It's been a few years though, and I was just thinking about running some through again though, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone more knowledgable.

 

You talking about the over the counter stuff from the local auto parts store, or a "professional" cleaning from a dealer?

I've been using 2 products over the years, either Chevron Techron or Sea Foam. I use that shit in everything - cars, boat, small engines, bike, etc. I don't know if it actually does anything, but figure it can't hurt.

From research that I did years ago (meaning the interwebz), I think most other products are junk (i.e. STP, Lucas, etc.). Sea Foam and Techron are the only 2 I'll use.

 

I've run SeaFoam through almost everything I own and it seems to work pretty well. I don't feel a difference on the bike but our SUV really perks up when the SF is in the tank and it improves fuel economy too if we are on a long run. When I say long run I mean 500 plus miles.

 

Same for me I used Techron few time but cannot see the different. :noidea:

 

Cool cool....Ya ..was tqlkin over the counter. Seems it cant hurt seeing my bikes a 2002...blike runs great but just maybe it cqn clean out some shite......think I may get the SF. Thanks guys

 

I'll add my $.02 for Seafoam. Use it in all my engines, small or large.

Snake foam or sea oil is too expensive for what you get:

Motor Treatment
50% light hydrocarbon oil (pale oil);
30% petroleum naphtha;
10% isopropyl alcohol;
10% water.

Fuel Treatment
50% diesel fuel
30% naphtha
10% isopropyl alcohol
10% water.

If you like putting those ingredients in your fuel and think it has benefit then buy them in bulk and roll your own.


Techron:

Stoddard is mineral spirits with some nasty solvents added to make it 'odorless', but i wouldn't advise to breathe it--it is rough on the old lungs.


and of course there is Marvel Mystery Oil:

MMO is a mixture of 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard.


Too bad they had to add ethanol and mess with gasoline--gasoline is for fuel, alky-hawl is fer drinkin'...

 

I use Techron in my 2000 4Runner. After one tank I do see a little better mileage for a while. I have a real mechanic in my family that says it's the good stuff.

How much do you guys add to the 5gal VFR tank? I know one bottle treats up to 15gal. I added one bottle in my SUV tank and put 12gal in. Not sure if I should add a whole bottle to 5gal tank though?

The previous owner of my 99 VFR used this, it has pretty good reviews and treats a hellava lot of gas. It also combats ethanol.

Mineral spirits are paint thinner in the same can with different label and a higher price. Ya rarely see any mention of Stoddard Solvent in the paint stores, or big box hardwares. Too easily confused by some dude wanting to thin down a Stoddard.

So if on the FI bikes if adding some of this stuff, I would suppose scaling down the overall amount would be a good idea. I use Techron in my Explorer and add one bottle to a full tank of gas. This might be too much for a bike tank.

 

I've run techron with no measurable effects in a 5th gen. Read the bottle, at some concentrations you will want to change the oil after treatment. My new theory.....if its not broke, don't fix it. Unless you are addressing a drivability or carbon build up problem don't add anything.

Use quality gas and there is no need for additives.

Just my opinion.

 

I use seafoam religiously on carbureted engines, running through half as bottle every oil change or so, or after any major tune up or de-winterizing. However I wouldn't use it on fuel injected systems since it's some harsh stuff and I wouldn't want to risk degrading the injectors.

for fuel injected bikes, I use Techron. It seems to do the job, and I haven't had to take apart or clean my injectors, valves or throttle bodies yet, so there's that.

I also firmly believe in only buying premium fuel from Shell or Chevron, which comes with a small amount of techron already in it as a detergent and stabilizer.

 

I use Seafoam in all my bikes and cars both carb. and injected.
