    Hi everyone,
After installing a Bazazz Z bomb recently and loving the results, I started poking around the Bazazz website in more detail and discovered they also make a quickshifter for the VFR1200. I'm intersted in getting one but wanted to check if anyone has any experience of this product first hand.

You have to install the Bazzaz fuel management module (ZF-1) along with their quick shifter. Same story with DJ, you need a PC-5 to install a DJ quick shifter. I have a friend with a 2010 VFR 1200F who installed the Bazzaz ZF-1 & quickshifter and I used the DJ PC-5 & DJ quickshifter on my VFR 1200. I have ridden both and they both work flawlessly. Full throttle up shifts in .055 seconds are a blast.

If you are mechanically talented and want to save some money buy the DJ PC-5 and the DJ quick shift sensor (4-114 push model). You will need to buy a DJ shift rod kit (4-106) as well. DJ does not list a quick shift kit for the VFR 1200 so you will have to make up your own shift linkage rods from the DJ linkage kit. I saved a couple of hundred dollars going the DJ route and assembling my own DJ quick shift kit instead of using the Bazzaz kit. I picked the Dynojet because I am very familiar with the DJ PC5 and have used their shift kits on two other bikes.

If you don't mind spending more for the same result buy the Bazzaz fuel controller with their quick shifter. It is an excellent product & you get everything you need including the correct linkage without having to custom make the linkage rods from the DJ linkage kit when using the DJ quickshift.

Many thanks for the reply Dynajohn. I notice you have the ZX-14 as well as the VFR12. Would the ZX-14 be noticeably quicker than the VFR?

Yes it is. There is really no comparison when it comes to pure performance It comes down to power and weight. My 2013 VFR made about 145 HP stock. We dyno tested the 2012 ZX-14 on the Brock's Performance dyno with less than 50 miles on the clock. Compleatly stock the ZX-14R made 192 HP and 115 ft/lbs torque. The ZX-14 was a project bike done by Brock's performance to develop bolt on performance parts for the 2nd generation ZX14R and see what a couple of average guys (myself & Terron Babbage) could achieve on the 1/4 mile. The whole project is video documented on the Brock's performance website if you are curious.

Right now my VFR is making around 158 HP and 90 ft/ lbs of TQ. That is with a PC5, Leo Vinci slip on, K & N filter and with the cat converter removed. The ZX-14R makes 214 HP & 226 Ft/lbs TQ set up for the street with 89 octane pump gas. The highest dyno number we saw on the ZX-14r using MR 12 race gas and Ailsyn race oil was 227 HP and 133 ft/lbs TQ. The ZX-14R has a Brock's performance rsace exhaust, PC 5 with a custom map for race fuel and a second map for 89 octane pump fuel, a stock air filter, low friction ceramic bearings in the wheels and the clutch was modified to remove the back TQ limiter.

The stock ZX14R will walk away from the VFR whether it is stock or modified and it only gets worse when you modify the ZX-14R. It is not a fair comparison. Honda did not design the VFR 12 to compete with the new ZX 14R or the 2nd gen Hyabusa. it is a sport/touring bike with the emphasis on sport.

Hey, thanks a lot for the detailed response. I think I'll stop riding like a lunatic to try to keep up with the guy on the ZX-14 on Sunday morning rides with the club.:tranquillity:
