I found a 1984 VF1000F this weekend, some guy had it for sale for $1500 bucks at his garage sale. The bike is in horrible shape but I needed a couple of parts for my VF750. So I ended up paying him $300.00. I know many of you may think I am crazy but it worth that for the parts I need for mine.
I may see if I can get it running who knows maybe it will turn into a restoration project.
I would really like to have a running 1000 garage partner for my 750 and I am a sucker for an unloved piece of equipment.

Good find. It would be a nice partner for your 750.
It looks ok to me, keep us informed.

Thanks sixdog that is a sweet looking bike, and just the encouragement I need to consider this challenge. I just like these 80's bikes. After all it was the era many of us were in our 20's, greatest music and great movies, cars not so much, but then again 2 out of three ain't bad.

Certainly worth $300 in parts. If the motor is sound, I'd mess with it for fun. Let us know what you find. I've seen worse brought back to nice.

It was our thanksgiving this weekend so worked on it yesterday and she is in bad shape. It has been down hard on both sides, tank is scrap, fairing is scrap, side covers are scrap, seat is done, cluster is in poor condition and there is dark brown gum is oozing out of the carbs, forks are pitted and severe road rash on the one fork. But the one muffler, and starter button I need are in fair condition. So I think I will scrap this one, but many of the parts will be kept for spares for my 750. Coils, rectifier etc. all have the same part numbers on them. It also came with a un mounted new front tire, but a different size than for the 750.

Any idea if the pipes off of a 1000 will work on an 83 VF750?

I used a set of Yoshimura slip-ons off a VF750F on my VF1000F...fit perfect. Now the stock header/power chamber, I believe is not compatible between models.

Interesting enough I removed a Yoshimura slip on. The connector pipe is pretty rusted and the cans don't look too bad.

I am using the stock headers and chamber so stock 1000F cans should work right?

It should work...what are you putting on if the Yosh slip ons are off? If you are not using the yosh slip ons and you want to sell them I may be interested

Wow, would love to have an F in that condition.

Sorry the OP bike didn't work. I've been down the $300 F bike road twice, keep your eyes open, there are a few good ones out there.

I found a decent set of stock ones on fleabay. They should paint up nicely.

I'll take some pics today aftwork. PM your email address and I'll send them over.

Well not to much to report yet got it kinda stripped down, changed oil and filter. Put in a battery and got it to turn over. Carbs are really gummed up but now I know it turns over, all the lights work etc. Next I will take carbs off to rebuild.
But first I have to finish the vf750, just waiting for all the parts to arrive. Sprockets and chain, rear caliper rebuild kit and few other odds and ends.

Not much work on VF1000. Did get the carbs soaked in diesel to loosen all the dirt. These sat with gas in them for many years and are very bad, shafts did not even turn. My 16 year old son has taken an interest in this project and has been helping with my bike projects this winter. That is very cool.
