    Hey!

So I am thinking about getting into motogymkana. Does anyone here do that? Specifically with a VFR? I have a Gen3 VFR that is almost entirely stock. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Never tried it myself but good luck.

There are plenty of youTube videos of folks with amazing bike control including quite a few Japanese police bike riders on VFRs. Whatever else fit full police style crash bars or it will get expensive.

The spelling is "gymkhana". Tons of that on Google. The VFR mounted Japanese LEOS are something to watch. Then ya got the harleydood fave, the "weenie bite."

IMO better than beating the crap out of a VFR is to buy a used trials bike. The two strokes are not pricy.

Okay, now those guys definitely have some skills. I can only offer up that perhaps, "I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy."

Yea, I am worried about beating up the VFR, but also don't have the money or space for a second bike. I might get a CB750 or something like that for practice. If I beat it up, and only paid $500 for it, who cares right? I also noticed that when I turn hard left, I cannot really twist the throttle because it is right next to the tank. Any suggestions on how to improve on this without buying a riser bar setup and new wire/cables?

BadBilly, from what I have seen, trials bikes are not cheap. Most of them run several thousand dollars, even used. If I am going to get something, Im looking in the $500 price range. Plenty of old CB's in that price range. Plus if I decide I don't want to run gymkhana any more, I can cafe it!

Reg Kittrel used to run "Battletrax" bike gymkhanas in CA and around the southwest a few years ago. I ran in three of them when he showed up where i was living. Free to enter, unbelievable fun, precise timing equipment, no limit on the number of runs. And i never crashed !! His courses, and any others i suspect, were not designed for heavy bikes like a VFR, which would be a ridiculous struggle. A CB750 is also unsuited with its heavy weight and long wheelbase.

Top times were always on smaller, lighter, quicker-responding bikes like my Hawk.

Hawks are awesome! A friend of mine had one that was highly modified, and it was such a blast to ride, although horribly uncomfortable. I figure since I love my VFR so much, if I practice with another heavy bike, the skills will more likely transfer over to when I ride the VFR. Plus I can let my dad ride the CB when I am not doing gymkhana on it, as he also loves to ride, but has no bike. Plus I think I have a bead on one for $300. I will keep the Hawk in mind if I do get serious about it though!

I wonder if any other law enforcement agencies other than the Japanese use VFRs? Be sort of fun to know what all the mods are to make up a VFR police bike?

Anyone who comes up with the observation that it has blue lights and a siren and is painted white will be excommunicated.

One thing that really seems to stick out from the picture of the Japanese police bike is just how high the bars are sitting..

I think you're right, zoom-zoom. I had a thought about higher bars. I am trying to do this on the cheap, and I have a pair of Hawk GT clip ons that I am thinking about modifying to fit my VFR as cheap/free riser bars. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

    Those crashbars stick out too.

Looks like the VFRs are used some in Hong Kong and Manilla. The higher bars and seat configuration might be for ergonomics. These guys (of both genders) ride all day every day.

Do I see cable routing on the throttle/brake side? Lots of Hondas in use a police bikes. ST's to Trail types worldwide. Nothing specific on factory mods on the VFRs yet.

Those French LEOS are tough dudes. One guy on the Rbike is doing a one arm pushup.
