1986 VF500F petcock: 100% all that there is to know or be done about a leaking or fussy petcock

After a couple hours of hard searching,

    Honda number 16953-ML0-034

Apparently the goldwings use the rubbers for the '86 petcock.

Other things I have gathered from around here and various other sources:

For the front of the petcock, drill out the rivet looking cap deals and remove the plate, tension ring, and selector.

The selector piece takes a 19 x 1.8mm x-ring that can be found at most local hydraulic shops. Alternatively, an equivalent o-ring can also work. (fuel grade grease optional)

The rubber selector gasket is likely to be replaceable by Honda CB77 CB350F CB750 GL1000 Petcock Gasket All Years | eBay

an 18mm x 2.5mm o-ring can replace the strainer o-ring, or you can cut a paper gasket out of any cereal box for the petcock plate (set it in oil for 10 min first).

Alternatively, you can make your petcock manual as seen here by cutting open your diaphragms and connecting the drain and vacuum connections to each other: Daugherty Motorsports - Tank Valve Petcock Modification

NOT recommended for people who are forgetful, or don't have a shut-my-bike-off routine. If you leave it on you may flood your engine/crankcase with gasoline

That's a good discovery - thanks for sharing.

I wonder if its time to create a single "When all else fails - Alternative parts" thread for each of the main older VFR types? Then as finds like this come up - we try and encourage people to ensure the information is also added to the central thread - that way useful stuff is easy to find. It looks like parts for 400, 500 and 700s are already an issue and I guess it won't be long before the early 750s will be in the same boat.

Its obvious from the similar threads listed below - that others have been struggling with petcock issues and sharing discoveries like this may be a valuable resource and allow others to keep their VFRs running.:vtr2:

A sticky thread or something for all bikes over 10 years old -would- be very helpful, perhaps I should talk to a mod about it. I also know where to get some really hard to find gaskets and a couple other parts. I'm sure with other people adding to the list we could build a whole bike XD

It should also be known that ALL parts reference pictures, even from Honda itself show the petcock from the 1985 and prior models. The 1986 schematic for the fuel tank with the proper petcock apparently doesn't exist anymore.
