I have been on this forum for a while, but though I'd introduce myself and show a couple of pictures of my first Interceptor. I roadraced RD 400 Yamahas in the late 70s and by 1981 Ihad turned to tuning for friend of mine and campaigning a Yamaha TZ 750 in the AMA Winston Cup Series. We got tired of flushing money down the toilet and decided to club race in the AMACCS the next season.

In 1983 my friend was working at a local Honda dealership at the time and bought the first Interceptor they took delivery on. In his first race with the new bike he pitched it over the tire wall and trashed it and sold it to me cheap. I took some getting used to the 16” front wheel.

The next season we decided to compete in the AMACCS endurance series. I bought a full fairing and a different seat and we enlisted a couple more riders and raced it in open prototype, including a 30 hours at Rockingham. The first picture is of the bike in AMACCS configuration. We did well in 1984 and won the prototype national championship winning 5 of the 6 races we ran.

After retiring from racing (the first of many “retirements”) the following season I fixed all the crash damage and repainted the bike you see in the second photo. A couple of years later I gave the bike to my son for his birthday and he promptly let someone steal it.

Over the years I had about 10 Interceptors in all, mostly 750 and 700 first generation bikes with a 500 thrown in on a whim. Today I have a 6th generation 2004 I just bought last November. Additionally I have a 1979 CBX and a 2007 CBR1000RR Repsol replica on order due in around the first of March.

Awesome! I love hearing from another lower of the early VF's! Maybe you'll find another one, that seems like the common trend. Get one - sell it - buy a newer bike - get another one. I must admit that I am guilty of that myself. My daily rider is a VTR and will probably get a new bike in the nest year or so, but I still love my fleet of old VF's.

Cool bike! Ahh the oldMetzelers, on there. I loved that ME33 Laser and the ME99 Perfect. I am surprised you raced on that rear tire though. I guess there were not a lot of choices back then? I remember putting on a set of Michelin Hi-Sports and feeling like Eddie Lawson!

Getcher capable hands on an '86/'87 when you get the chance cuz the 2nd gen improvements represent real progress, and it's a better bike in most ways.

Dam, Comp K's. I forgot about those. In Calgary AB. , my home track, I'd say 2/3 of the guys were using Comp K's. Then Michelin came out with a radial, then the Dunlop D211's came out I think, then Bridgestone had a new tire. For a few years though Metzeler was King! But the worst tire I ever had to use was a Pirelli Demon, in the "RZ Cup". A spec. class. In the wet especially, they were scary. Kind of made me shy away from Pirelli ever since.

Great to have you around. I see Lockhart lowers on #81. Nice looking bikes. How do you do out there against the others on them?
