Hello, I'm new to VFR world and new to my 1984 VFR500. I have just about put 2000 miles on it, I bought it at twelve and there has been no problems yet.. I put a new battery in, fuses , rear break pads and that's about it.. I was wondering what anyone recommends doing next?
    Thanks for the help

Welcome aboard. Don't know anything about the 500's but there are some really knowledgeable and helpful guys here, they may be more motivated if they see pictures of this alleged motorcycle

Hi and welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:

I have never owned a 500 so can't really offer anything more than general advice on your new bike. If you have specific questions then I suggest you open a new thread in either the specific 1st/2nd Gen forum or Mechanics Garage.

Certainly if you are not sure about the bikes past, then its always a good idea to give it a basic oil, plugs & filters service and examine and if necessary replace brakes and other fluids.

On an older bike its important to not to overlook your daily checks at least until you get a good feel for it, and what is normal. Regularly checking fluid levels may give you early warning if the bike is losing oil or other fluids.

If you are not planning on replacing the tyres(tires) its worth taking time to inspect them for any danger signs - bad cuts or poor repairs. You can work out when tyres were manufactured by the information on the tyre sidewall - http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/MIC_Tire_Guide_2012V1.pdf

Don't forget to post up some photos of your VFR :vtr2:soon - or it won't be long before folks on here start ragging on you... :worthless:

You may also want to update your forum profile (My Profile tab at the top of the screen) to include details of your bike and location - city/state will be fine. That way all the relevant information will appear with your posts and if you hit problems and need help, you may find someone nearby willing to swing by and offer help/advice in return for some beer tokens.

    Take care

Check the valve clearances and look for mushrooming on the tops of valve stems. Valves are the #1 problem on 500s.

Welcome Reptar29, good looking bike you got there. First thing I would do is get aftermarket exhaust-cans
