Just thought I'd drop a hello to all. I've been lurking on and off for many years. Lots of great information on this site. I have about 300,000 miles over the past 33 years of riding, with my last 12 years on my 5th generation VFR800. Runs solid a a rock. I've manage to put 110,000 miles on this bike and it has never given me any problems. I'd jump on it tomorrow and ride it across the country without a concern. Got to love that V4 engine!

I just picked up a used 2002 VFR with ABS so I have both generations sitting in my garage right now. It's interesting to have both generations available to compare. Right now my heart is still with the 5th gen but I'm slowly warming up to the 6th gen. Since I commute daily, the OEM factory luggage and ABS convinced me to give the 6th gen a chance. I told myself I'll give it one year to decide. If things don't work out, I'll go back to the 5th gen and sell the 6th gen. Should be interesting.

Either way, welcome to the site! Post some pics of those two beautiful VFRs sitting in your garage!

Welcome - I am also a new member.
110,000 is a lot of riding - that is a pretty big feat.
I cant say I have ever put that much mileage on any one single vehicle - no matter what type.
My GF says it's because I am commitment phobic -.
Cant wait to see the pics of your rides.

Welcome to The World! I too have both a 5 Gen and a 6 Gen. I started with a 6 Gen and just recently acquired the 5 Gen. My 6 Gen is my commuter/tourer and my 5 Gen is purely for fun, sport rides and (hopefully) track days. I setup the 6 Gen for long hauls, Heli-bars, Sargent seat, Givi touring windscreen, top case, tank bag, Jamie Daugherty suspension treatment, etc. and it really does a great job for what I use it for. The 5 Gen is actually stock at the moment but I have some plans for performance upgrades, which I am slowing filling up the goody bag with, but I need to add $ to my "play" account to finish up the rest of my purchases! So far though, even in stock form, she's fun to ride.

    Cheers!

Hi Mark, yeah it's me. Hope that seat works out for you. I'm thinking of have my stock seat shaved down a bit in the front/sides so that I can get bit more footing on the ground when stopped. ALthough I've never been able to flat foot my 5TH GEN, It seems my 5th gen sits just a bit lower. From what I can tell, removing a bit of foam on the right/left outer front portion of the stock seat should not impact my overall riding comfort since I don't actually seat on the this portion of the seat. The outer foam on each side of the front is not allowing my legs to go straight down, costing me a bit of reach. Any suggestions on a place in our area that could do this little bit of work?

Haha I thought it was you Dave. You might want to be careful with removing foam from the sides of the saddle, because doing so will reduce the overall pressure distribution of the seat and put more stress on your behind and lower back. Even if it's an area where you don't put much pressure, it will likely make a difference. I don't know any local places that do custom seats but many people on this site recommend Spencer's mods. He's located in FL and will mod a seat per your instructions for about $75. His website is greatdaytoride.com.
