Hello all, new to the forum. As a motorcyclist that started with this obsession in the mid 80's, I have found myself pondering a restoration of an 84 - 85 VF1000R. I've owned many sportbikes but find myself wanting to part with my current low mileage ride, an 04 Kawasaki 636.

I understand to pull this off I need to find a VF that is as complete as possible given the cost of bodywork and what not. If anyone can pass along some resources to find these bikes and parts it would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, if anyone has one of these bikes and are parting with it and would be interested in discusing a trade for a 636 street bike or track day bike I would b interested to have that discussion as well. I may be interested in other vFr models as well.

    Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to the MadHouse.:welcome:

Sounds like you are not one to shy away from a challenge. Sadly not many 1000Rs were made and a lot soon got wrecked by over enthusiastic wannabe racers, so they are a pretty rare. Also most wrecks were quickly pulled for parts, so you may find getting hold of stuff for your project will be quite a mission.

Good luck with the search, and if (when) you succeed, it would be great to see regular picture updates throughout the project .

Thanks for the reply Skimad, I've pulled off several decent restorations however not on a bike with such limited parts availability. I'm also a big fan of most years of the VFR so I would consider a 750 or 800 as well.

Seems like a long time to sell a great bike. It fits into my budget, I wish you were closer. I knew getting into this that shipping the bike or flying out to pick it up was going to be a possibility. However I didn't plan on a cross country trip

Toecutter your bike looks like just what I'm looking for. Something to think about here. I don't necessarily need a project, I just didn't want to spend 8 grand for a restored bike and getting into a nice workable bike for around 3 grand sounds right.
