Many here promote Rotella so long as it does not have the additives that work against your clutch performance. I am switching next oil change cause it is the same oil I can use in my diesel truck.

+1 on the Rotella, I'm now running that it both VFRs and will be on the Duc on its next oil change. It's something like. $21/gallon at Walmart.

That clutch issue is suspect.. Not much but opinion IMO. Switched from Semi- Golden Spectro @ 8 pesos/qt two years ago, nary a problem .Same clutch

Shell Rotella T at Walmart by the jug. About $800.00 in Canadian money :)

I get the gn4 at my local honda dealer for 4.99qt took a little time at first to get the discount for anything i buy there. But i stay loyal to the same shopand eventually started asking for a discount. It cant hurt to ask. Heck they probably get it much cheaper than that anyway. But i really do appreciate it and always thank them.

My dealer has GN4 in 1 gallon (4quarts) for $22. Are you sure they don't have one gallon bottles?

Most name brand non-energy conserving oils will have the same lubrication qualities as Honda's oil line. I never could understand why people are willing to pay so much more for an oil just because it has Honda's name on it. I am especially amused by the anal owners who waste money by changing their oil every 1000 miles. Bottom line is you will be fine with most major brand oils as long as they are non-energy conserving and you change it every 2500 to 3500 miles. I've tried lots of different brands from the most expensive ones to the cheapest ones and the only big difference I ever saw was what was left in my wallet afterwards. I have plenty of friends who have over 70k miles on their bikes and they've always used the cheap stuff from Wal-Mart and they have never had any problems despite what people who are obsessed with oil analysis reports tell them.

The harleydoods that use the cheap stuff from Walmart don't need to ever change oil, just keep adding it..

I think I fell into that category of anal retentive owners. I was changing my oil every 5,000 km with semi synthetic Motul 5100. That is roughly 3100 miles. The manual says 12,800 km or 8000 miles but this also depended on your type of riding. After 60K or so miles, I found I was changing the oil just far too often and changed my pattern to every 10,000 km. That is still more often that the recommended interval, but I figured with the shit weather I rode in, this was safe and cheap insurance. I was really more concerned about the air filter than the oil. I used the 5,000 and 10,000 because they were easier numbers to remember. No recording of mileage. If it is near 10K change it if convenient. Or run a little past but change right away and prepare for the next 10K on the zeros. Still used the Motul. I have very high mileage on mine so what I was doing as definitely not wrong. But at something like $45.00 a gallon for the Motul, it is time to change that to. Like I said, I can use the Rotella in my truck too so I won't have all these different oils around my garage.

Never have had my oil analyzed. My head a few times maybe.
