i have a 86 vfr 700 intersepter, when i got the bike the fuse in the potition/tail was not in. i put it in and the blinker lights stay on and the yellow turn light on the dash comes on and stays on. someone put different blinkers on the bike. does the origanal blinkers have 3 wires and do the blinker lights stay on acting like running lights? Or did the guy i got this bike from wire something wrong?

    Thank you for any help

I don't know for sure. I am sure someone here will be able to answer your question. But it really looks like someone got in there and messed around with the wiring. On most if not all vehicles these. days and for a long time, the signal lights came on with the head lights in a dim mode, to act as marker lights. When the signal switch was activated, they flashed brighter. The only exception to that I am aware of, is if there are marker lights separate from the signal light.

As for the light remaining on solid, that used to be an indication that the flashing relay was inoperable, or a bulb was burned out. Do you have that problem on both sides?

If yours are supposed to remain on and flash a brighter light when the signal light is on, then I would think that the bulb would have to be a dual element bulb. If it is not, and someone somewhere down the line has replaced it with a single filament bulb, that could be the cause of all your problems right there.

    Again, I don't know for sure. I have a 6th gen.

These bikes do have running lights, you may want to check your switch, the wiring, and the bulbs. The running lights are on a separate circuit than the turn signal. When you put your turn signal on, the thumb switch disconnects from the running lights position (center line contacts) and grounds the left or right signal. The flasher is on the hot side, and works for both signals. Should look something like this: +Battery>fuse>flasher+ ///Switch/// -SIGNAL wire to light bulb>Ground-

Keep in mind, since the ground is what is being switched, the bulb only needs 2 wires even with a running light. One position for the switch has a flasher for the hot line (flash HOT) and the other is a solid positive (running light HOT)

Thanks Randy and Reista,,, i looked at it and the guy connected both hot wires together that is why the light stayed on. i disconnected the wrong wires and put it back to the origanal way. now i just need to find a 3 wire / blinker-running light to install back on my bike. THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
