Color coded too! which color would look best on an 86 1KR? Although I'm considering going with the 85 top cowl- think it's stronger looking than the blue of the 86.

How bout a set of red on a Euro reverse scheme?

A guy who lives just down the hill from me had some VFR750 mirrors painted the Fighting Red on his 86 1000 just so it was different. Looks pretty good.

That certainly screams, "I've lived through the 80's!" but then, so does the whole motorcycle. That euro scheme is beautiful, but the rest of my panels are in decent shape, so I'm sticking with the domestic colors for now.

Just got done with a bunch of work on this one. The fuel tubes started to leak at the end of last fall, so it got parked for a while. I have been working on a VFR track bike at the same time and there were some parts I wanted to swap between the two.

So, I rebuilt the carbs. Luckily, I had 2 complete sets of the fuel and air tube o-rings from some gaskets sets I had bought years ago to get the float bowl o-rings.

Also swapped the valve covers from the track bike engine to this one. The factory finish was in pretty decent shape, and the track bike would be getting a custom color on the not-so pretty set I removed. Checked/adjusted the valves while the covers were off. I only had to adjust one a little, so that was good. Cams looked perfect (51K miles). Installed a new clutch and springs while I had the right crankcase cover off also.

Replaced the front sprocket (which looked like it did not get replaced with the recent chain and rear sprocket right before I bought it). Cleaned the chain while it was off. This bike will get a near perfect set of stock mufflers installed when the new gaskets come in. The 4-1 that this bike had is going on the track bike. Also disassembled and cleaned the starter motor out and gave it some black paint.

The sub-frame got swapped out with a nicer one I had (it had some damage to the left footpeg/muffler mount area, so it got modified for the track bike). It got cleaned, prepped and some new black paint. While I had the rear end off, I took the rear suspension apart and swapped in a low mileage shock and linkage that I completely cleaned, painted and re-greased. The radiator and oil cooler got cleaned, fins straightened and a light coat of silver.

I think that's about it for the big stuff. The engine got a good cleaning, about the best I could do on an all-weather bike still in the frame. The wheels got some love too.

And I recently picked this up.

14K miles. Looks like the chain and sprockets were just replaced, still has the white grease on it. New brake pads front and rear. Front end is damaged. Left fork slider has a good gash/dent in it that is keeping the forks compressed, but the tubes look straight. Fuel tank is pretty hammered, but is perfect inside, so I may try and save it. Radiator is toast, as well as the oil cooler. No front body work, but the tail section is nearly perfect, all tabs intact. Solo cowl has the typical start of cracks near the bump pad and rear tab, but it will get reinforced on the inside.

Ordered the exhaust gaskets for the mufflers today. I had carefully extracted them years ago to use with some mufflers cut off for some Kerker slip-ons on the 86 FII.

They are pretty unique gaskets, not used on many models. Maybe just the VFR.

4 gaskets... $72.45 with 10% off (So, basically no tax).
Damn. I had 4 trashed mufflers worth of gaskets to try and get out. But no way... they would have disintegrated. So leave them be, and use them for another set of brand new Kerkers I have for the above mentioned $300 VFR.
