    hey Guys,

I Tried To Synch My Vf500F But Couldnt Get A Good Enough Tool To Turn The Screws With And Ended Up Taking Them Off And Bench Sync Them With Paper. The Below Pic Is What I Ended Up With And You Can See Tachometer In The Back. My Question Is, Is This Good Or Should I Adjust Them To Be More Accurate? I Still Need To Adjust My Mixture Too. Im At 2.5 Turns Out All Around. Which Way Is Leaner And WhCh Way Is Richer? In OR Out?

Gauges look OK to me. The mixture screw is a fuel screw, counterclockwise richer, clockwise leaner. I'm running stock jetting on my 500, runs best at 3 turns out, give or take. I've found that when I get the engine running smoothly the fuel screws are not turned out exactly the same amount.

So You Think I Should Try To Get The Sync A Bit Better? I Was Assumming There Would Be Variability Within The Gages So That Orientation Would Be Close Enough. Idles Well Too But Response At Idle Sucks.I Wanted To Get A 50 Rpm Increment Tach To Adjust My Fuel Screws With Per The FSM instructions. I Hate Plug Chopping. Im Running 95 Mains In Front And 92 Mains In There Wear, 35 Slows And 1986 Float Height Spec Of 7.3Mm. Sorry About Every WorD Being Capital.. Im Doing THis On My Phone.

Here's how I adjust the pilot screws, works well for me. Turn all 4 screws in until they seat lightly, then turn out 2 1/2 turns. Warm the engine up & set the idle speed at 1300-1500 RPM. Turn each screw, one at a time, out (richer) until the idle speed begins to slow slightly. Turn the screw back in (leaner) idle speed will increase, keep turning until the idle begins to roughen a bit. Set the screw between these two positions. You mention poor throttle response off idle, does the engine return to idle speed slowly when closing the throttle?

Thanks For The Instructions! Yes The Bike Takes A Little Longer Then Normal To Return Back To Idle. I Tried All My Screws At 3 Turns Out And Same Thing Happened. Does This Mean Im Running Very Rich? I Adjusted Everything Per Fsm Spec.

Slow return to idle indicates a lean condition. I would suspect that the pilot jets are somewhat clogged, they can be difficult to get completely clean if well crudded up. A wire removed from a wire brush does a pretty good job, spray come carb cleaner in the jet orifice and run the wire in and out. If you are in doubt as to whether or not the jets are clogged, new ones are cheap. Does each fuel screw affect the idle when turned in or out? If there is little to no response to turning them, the pilots and/or idle circuit passages a bit clogged. Another thing that can cause slow return to idle is low float level or restricted flow into the carb bowls.

I Cleaned My Carbs And Dipped Them All. Replaced All Seals. And Set Float Height To 7.3 86 Model. I Did Clean All The Pilot Jets And Even Manually Checked Them My Blowing ThRough Them With A Tube. They Are Definently Not The Problem. Float Height Maybd Though.
