    Hi all,

I am working on an old 87 vfr700f, it has a bad CDI. I have disassembled the CDI and determined it has what looks to be a blown disc capacitor; possibly a varistor. I am un able to find any pictures of these opened so i can see the numbers on the fried part. If anyone has a good CDI they can see the rest of this part i would love you forever. i believe these are 86/87 specific thanks!

here is a picture of the problem

Update: the remaining letter and triangle on the part identifies it as a varistor (voltage spike protection) there are several variants, I just need the numbers after the K that are burnt off thanks!!!!!!

I am sure I have one around here somewhere, if you PM me Saturday morning to remind me I will toss the garage and try to locate it.

The 2 CDIs are slightly different '86 vs. '87.

    Hi
    Just gone through this myself.
I managed to have mine repaired locally.
There are three variations of the cdi and they are not interchangeable.
86/87 700f1/750fg is rectangular with three sets if wires.

87 700f2/750fh is a squarer style box. It has two sets of wires, each with a red plug on the end, four wires in one and six in the other.

88/89 FJ/K has a box similar to the 87f2 but has a white plug with a redplug, each with six wires.

Later vfrs have a different type of cdi again.

    Roger
