I removed my header a couple of weeks ago to have it sandblasted and painted but I haven't got it back yet. My new front tire arrived and I'd like to get the front wheel off. I don't have a garage so hanging the bike up by the triple tree is not an option nor do I have a front stand. The question is...will the oil pan support what ever force is required to balance the machine while it is on the centre stand..or do I have to wait until the header is ready and jack under it? I think I know the answer but just looking for a sanity check. Thanks in advance!

Spread the load on the pan widely and no problem.

Yes - I just made a mini wood frame out of 2 x 4s so there was room for the drain plug to stay out of the way.(It goes between the boards) -- Easy peasy.

Here's the official VFR high tech newfangled jack stand frame. (Adventures while intoxicated.)

That's great! The "real" reason the header came off was to replace the oil pan with one that had all of the fairing bolt tabs intact...I was missing one. So...I thought to get the header restored. Long story short, it would have been a real sad story if I ruined the new oil pan!!

    Thanks again fellas!

Can this be done with the Fairing on? I can't see how you could fit a jack in there. I have a motorcycle lift. I hate to pull the fairing unless I have to do it. It's a PITA.

I would not advise anyone jacking the machine up with the fairing on.

That's what I thought. I could not see anyway to support the VFR with the side panels on. I wonder why they make it such a pain to pull the covers off? The part I dislike the most is trying to get all the tabs to slip into the connecting panels. I always feels like I'm going to break one of them.

When a bike is on the centerstand and I need the front wheel off the ground, I'll put whatever fits underneath, but I always use a 2x4 under the oil pan, so any sharp spots can bite into the softer wood, rather than getting broken off.
Now I have a front and rear stand, but it wasn't always that way. Like many before me, I've had front and back tire off while the bike is jacked and balanced.
