Not sure if a gen 3 and gen 4 water pump has changed but Ronayers lists the same part for the 90 - 97 years. I have one sitting around if you want it. PM me if you do.

    Rebuild not possible.....unless.

I doubt any rebuild is possible, but i hope i'm wrong.

You'd need two replacement seals at the minimum, and where you gonna get them ??

Pump failures are rare, so what happened to yours and how many miles ??

gen 3 pump is not compatible. different length impeller shaft. my bike is at 37k... coolant leaking at the weep hole when it worms up.. only thing I can think of is i replaced the thermostat and drained the old coolant out. I replaced it with green auto coolant, maby that killed the seal? who knows. im taking both gen 3 and 4 pumps to a friend tomorrow, we are going to press them appart and see if we cant find replacment seals and bearings or swap the good ones for the bad... starting to feel like ill never ride the viffer again.

good news! i found replacement seals! and destroyed a pump in order to find the correct way to rebuild mine... unfortunately there was no way to replace the bearing but the there was no need anyhow because the bearing is massive and built into the impeller shaft. interesting design actually. bearing and impeller shaft is all one unit...Anyhow, Im very happy to have a rebuilt pump! Im thinking of doing rebuilt gen 3 and 4 pumps for extra cash sense we are SOL on pumps and forced to install used ones..

Found this thread while doing a search for a water pump. Where did you find the seals from?

I bought a used pump which only lasted less than 100 miles before it too started leaking from the shaft seal. After searching around for awhile I finally found a supply on, of all places, Amazon. The part is an Amico Rubber Bellows Coil Spring 12mm Dia. Water Pumps Mechanical Seal. Costs around $6! I had my doubts, but for that price I'd nothing to lose. I rebuilt the pump and so far it's holding up after several hundred miles. Hardest part of the rebuild was pressing the shaft and bearing out of the housing. Like vandler, I destroyed one pump figuring out how to rebuild it.

So, have you removed or disabled your OEM mechanical pump or do you run the two in tandem? How did you mount it? Any pictures?
