Hi guys. I purchased my 800vtec a month ago. It steers a lot slower than my previous bikes which were more sports orientated. Has anyone adjusted their standard bike to steer faster? I am thinki of dropping the yokes/tripples and raising the rear.

I wouldn't raise the rear but I wouldn't be afraid to lower the front some. 5mm will make a huge difference. You have to remember the VFR is quite a bit heavier than most sports bikes.

I have raised the rear with great results. I hesitate to lower the front as I need the ground clearance.

Put a 10mm spacer in the rear and install tapered roller bearings in the steering head. That made a huge difference for me.

Ground clearance is my concern as well, rear was lifted aboot 27mm over time and I like it where it is now.

Compared to OEM balls, tapered roller setup adds friction to steering effort and slightly reduces feel/feedback from tire contact patch.

I raised the rear on my 98 and love what it did for it. Your front tire can have a lot to do with it as well. I like the pilot powers. Fact is though unless your prepared to spend a whole lot of money its never going to steer as quick as a bike that weighs a hundred pounds less. Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the warm welcome you guys. Good to see a healthy interest in these amazing bikes. I have owned Aprilia rsv's for years but now my wrists can't take the strain of those low bars! Did anyone find any realistically priced exhaust cans? Even used items look to cost a fortune. I was thinking of partly hollowing out some spare standard cans, then having the bike dynoed and chipped to suit. The only thing is that those standard stainless cans weigh so much........

There are a few different cans that are sub $500 but I cant remember them. Leo's, Laser's, and Staintune's are the three that really bring out the true sound and you can't get Laser's in the USA anymore unless they are used.
