I have 6th Gen VFR800. After riding I notice my swingarm is hot. I wouldn't call it warm, I would call it more hot.

I needed my rear brakes done, my rotor was toast, and it also used to get hot, whehter I used it or not, so I figured my rear brake must have been dragging. They flushed my brakes, changed pads and through on the new rotor. I asked them (mechanic) about the heat of my swing arm and they said it probably is normal just from things like exhaust and engine heat..........just wanted to confirm with other VFR owners (my mechanic mostly works on yamahas).

It does get hot from the engine and exhaust but I don't think that the area around the eccentric hub should get all that warm. I'll check the next time I go for a ride but I'm pretty sure that I can put my bare hand on the back half of the swingarm after a 50 mile ride.

The entire bike is hot as a fire-cracker! Aluminum frame is hot to the touch where you can't keep your hand on it, and mine are used to heat. Its just the way it is, nothing to worry aboot...just dont touch it with your pet monkey or your woman is gona be mad!

I would say yes normal to be hot. it is in close proxemity to the headers and they get farken hot. They will melt the skin right off your legs within a milisecond. Is the heat at the end of the swingarm or closer to the front?

also where do u live? In LA on a hot summer day the aluminum is a good 100+ degrees before you start the bike.

Your rear brake was probably dragging due to stiff caliper seals (evidence is ruined rotor) and transferring that heat to the swingarm.

squirrelman, yes i believe that is correct. Rotor is replaced, seems to be doing well, I still see some heat back there, but its probably just the ambient heat catching it because of proximity.
