My first post, hoping it would have been a good one. Just picked up a '98 with 5900 miles on it, thought I was good to go, but not. The bypass solenoid is intermittenly actuating when the key is on (engne not running), in gear, and clutch lever is actuated. It only happens in gear and when lever is about mid actuation, once the clutch switch is closed (lever to bar) nosie stops. It appears it's when the switch first makes contact, then after full switch close, solenoid stops moving? Clutch switch bad? Or short circuit? Anyone else experiance this? I have looked over the wiring diagram and can't see how the switch and solenoid are related. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you talking about the flapper valve in the top of the air box or something else?

Can you tell us exactly what part you're talking about? Seems none of us are quite sure what it is specifically that you're talking about yet. Once we know that, we can help ya more.

Yes this solenoid controls (variable air intake solenoid valve) the flapper valve vacuum line. Per the wiring diagram, the clutch switch and solenoid are at opposite ends of the schematic, not sure how they are related electrically? Yes, bike runs fine, no FI light. Maybe it's normal operation. The valve is located under the right side bottom of air box (real pain to get to). Tested flapper operation, closed at under 5k rpm, open at 5500 rpm.

It sounds like it is working right. I know the clutch lever has something to do with actuating the air valve. There was a youtube video showing the operation of the valve with the clutch handle but ofcourse now I can't find it.

Thanks for info, I did find that video on here, but it would not play. Thanks again. I think all is well, battery is new and voltage checks out. Going to put a VFRness on it soon and maybe new R/R.
