I'm looking at buying a VFR as my ZZR 600 is fit for the scrap yard and I love V4's. However, what are the odd's of me getting any VFR at £1600 without it ruining my life by falling to bits and needing a trip to the mechanics every week? I'd prefer the 400 but the 750 and 800 both also appeal to me quite a bit. However, the reduced fuel economy does not as I do put on a lot of miles.

Can't to speak for the UK but in South Africa most of the 400's were grey imports that subsequently had their necks wrung, so good ones are a bit hard to come by. A 750/800 will probably have been better looked after. You can also try VFRClub, seem to be more English guys there.

As long as you are aware that any second hand motorcycle can ruin your life

Or enrich it immeasurably (as in my case with a VF500).

My VFR800 was just under £3000, for a 2000 model at 18,000 miles. I got it from a dealer a couple of years ago now. Was more than private sale of course as it was a proper dealer. Caused me some problems as previous owner didn't look after her so cost me a bit in the long run. I was unlucky though :(

Have a look on gumtree, I was surprised that there was some good priced ones.
Don't forget to look around the board to see what to look for when buying a second hand vfr. And good luck, you'll get addicted to Honda's V4's now :p
