Hey all, I posted up awhile ago about getting a 1987 Vfr700. I finally got the carbs and installed them along with doing an oil change. I need to change the coolant over and change the plugs. I have that stuff coming in. What I can't seem to find is a couple of parts in the fuel system. For one, I need a rebuild kit for the selector that goes on-off-res. I just don't know how clogged it is. The inside of the tank is downright nasty. I also need to find a idiot light sender unit because mine is toast. Any suggestions where to find them? I'd like to get them by this weekend so that I can have them and put this thing together and hear it run. I cranked it the other day and it almost caught, but definitely needed a bit more work. Also, any leads on a negative battery cable because 3/4's of the strands on mine are corroded off. Other than that, it's simple stuff like sprockets and such and I can get her on the road and pics up. Just trying to lock down a few last minute parts! Help me please!
Probably that cable was destroyed by battery acid as the po didn't have the battery vent tube connected properly. Wash down the area or the acid will continue to eat things. The carbs will clog repeatedly until the fuel tank is drained, flushed, and (if any rust is present) coated. New fuel filter too.
I agree on the tank. I'll be taking care of that the week I get back off my business trip. For now, I'm in Michigan while the bike sits in Massachusetts. I do plan on cleaning it all out, that's why I'm looking for these parts. I'm fairly certian the fuel sender is toast, it is covered to hell. The tank was all rust, so I will clean that repeatedly and coat it before putting it back on the bike. For now, I have a small plastic tank holding the fuel for the bike. I've found the petcock assembly, but still can not locate a fuel sender. I'd prefer to replace it now. And thank you on the battery acid. I never thought of that but will have to give the box a good cleaning before fitting the new battery in it's new home. We'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't start eating away this one as well.
