I have a 1999 VFR and the only thing I dislike about it is the rear cowl bolts. It would be nice if I did'nt have to carry a screwdriver in the tank bag. Does anyone know of an aftermarket alternative?
Hey. I got a Pro Bolt kit to replace all fairing screws on my bike, and the kit comes with a small allen key that fits in my wallet. Its the size of a credit card, so its very convenient. You can also get quick release bolts from pro bolt, but i havent tried them because the ones we have at our dealership are too short and wont go all the way through the seat cover, rear cowl and into the frame mounts.
Simple Replace them with any old stainless dome-headed bolts you have lying around. You do know you can undo them with a coin, no ? so do tea-leaves.. Rid
Are you referring to the rear seat cowl bolts that you need and allen wrench to undo? If so, sargeant makes aftermarket pins. They are sorta expensive... http://www.sargentcycle.com/acfastaccess.htm
The Sargeant Bolts are very high quality & very expensive. I think they are like $24 a pair & you must drill out the threads to get them to work. In other words, if you screw it up while drilling, you are screwed. Since day one, I've tightened the cowl bolts with a quarter. They have yet to fall out. A quarter takes up much less space than a screwdriver & you're more likely than not going to have on on you. I keep one in my tailbag. KC-10 FE out... lane:
