In episode two I stated that I just had the wiring harness replaced and it still didn't fix the problem. Because the dealer already had the bike tore apart for the wiring recall problem I let them trouble shoot to see where the shorted component or direct path to ground was coming from. Turned out to be in the license plate ckt. I haven't fixed it yet but I probably caused it myself when I had the whole bracket off to mount bags. I probably have batt and grd pinched together under there. The problem is that there are so many items common in that fuse ckt. The factory manual wiring diagram is wrong and doesn't even show the light on that ckt. The Haynes manual is correct in it's wiring and a lot easier to follow with the color coding. I guess the lesson is to suspect anything that is common to that ckt, go for the easy to get to stuff first, and then ask yourself, is there anything I worked on or did to the bike recently?

Hm... not to derail the original thread - but I bought my 2002 last year - how do I check to see if the electrical recall was done on my bike?
    Thanks!

..of course I would find the contact # within seconds of posting...
