    Hi All,

So, I have found a great condition, 2010 VFR with 4,000 miles, Hondaline panniers and Acropovic (sp?) pipe for $10,999, which seems like a very good deal. On paper this should be a perfect bike for me, but when I have ridden it, it seems very "unwieldy". It feels heavy and that I have to muscle it a bit to get it to go where I want it to go. I am not a small guy (6'2" and 200 lbs), and my old Triumph Daytona 1000 went were I wanted it to go by only looking in the right direction.

Should I feel confident that this bike just takes some time to adjust to, or is it what it is, a big heavy bike that takes some effort.

My other top choice is a Triumph Tiger 800. I know they are totally different bikes, but with the Tiger I feel like I can flip that thing around like it were a mountain bike. So easy to maneuver with a lot of power and torque from an 800.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Heath

Check the condition of tires, are they old and squared off? Check the the pressures as well, if even a few lbs. low it'll make any bike drive like a tank at sea.

Check the tires. That was my impression as well, running on 25psi. It is a heavy bike but it should steer better than you describe.

That's interesting on the tires. Lord knows how long it has sat in the shop. They could definitely be low. I looked at their profile as the salesman rode it out, but didn't check the pressure or anything. Thanks for the advice. What is the appropriate pressure? I can call the shop to check it.

Set the preload on the rear shock properly. Or lower the front in the triple clamp 3-4mm

I don't want to threadjack, but II've been reading a lot on this forum about people dropping the triple tree to help the handling. I'm going to start another thread with something I found that goes to the exact opposite of that....

How do you adjust the preload? Is it a simple process? Do you recommend settings for a 200 lb person?

The preload knob is in the middle of the right side, turn it many clicks clockwise (H). I very much agree with tire pressure, my first test drive on the 1200 I brought it back after a few minutes to have it checked, it was 10lbs out, hard to believe a dealer can miss something like that when they're trying to dazzle.
All the difference in the world.

Thanks Guys. I will call the dealer to check tomorrow. You could have helped keep me from passing up on a great bike.
