Hello, I just bought a 2000 VFR 800 this morning and thought I'd look for a forum with good helpful info on maintenance and repairs etc. I plan on doing most (basic) stuff myself and I've never owned a Viffer so this site looks very useful and with a bunch of friendly people, so hi everyone! This is my new bike: Uploaded with ImageShack.us It has just 9,200 miles and is in pretty good shape but needs some stuff.... tires especially. The Dunlops on it now were manufactured in 2002  They felt horrible so I ordered some Pilot Road 2's as soon as I got home! The chain looks pretty blech too but seems to run smoothly, so I'll see what a good clean and re-lube will do first. Bike is stock apart from a Delkevik slip-on (which sounds nice.... not too loud,I like that). Ride safe everyone. Lloyd.
:hss: she is sooooo fine  Where is Pliskin? Found him another Yellow :welcome: to the madness glad to have you Congratulation to your new ride. You just got a world famous bike. Enjoy she will bring you with many years of happiness
Yellow is the fastest color VFR otstir: I like the yellow stripe on the rims!! don't forget to check in here........ http://vfrworld.com/forums/5th-generation-1998-2001/16768-yellow-black-attack.html?highlight=
Congrats and welcome aboard. Don't mind all the haters that are going to tell you that you needed to get one in red, or silver or whatever. You're now part of an elite crowd with the fastest color. No shocker, I'm a member too. Your chain should be fine with a good cleaning, as you said. 9600 miles is nothing. Those Dunlops are crap and I personally think you made a great choice with the PR2. Wait til you see the difference. One thing you should check into: The Regulator/Rectifier. If you don't know VFR's, this is is biggest shortcoming (followed by a weak suspension if you weigh over 160 pounds). The R/R WILL fail. Not a question of "if": its a matter of "when". Take a look at this thread to learn yourself. http://vfrworld.com/forums/5th-gene...how-fix-common-regulator-stator-failures.html
Welcome to the brotherhood of Yellow (AKA the Fastest) VFR's. The advice mentioned above is spot on. I also have a 2000 and I did the Mosfet RR upgrade from roadstercycle.com and I had Daugherty Motorsports do the suspension. The bike absolutely kicks ass and I would only get rid of it for a another VFR. As it turns out after recently trying out a 6th Gen, I liked the 2000 better. Go figure!! Oh and a Sargent seat is a good upgrade too, lol Enjoy and have fun!
Yes I've heard about the VFR reg/rec thing.... similar to the Triumph Sprint I had. I replaced that with one from an R1. Thanks for that link.
Brake and clutch fluid look clean but I plan on changing all fluids soon anyway... just 'cos it's a new bike and I want a good "starting point" for my Maintenance Book" Thanks guys.
