    CV Carb Tuning Procedures

How familiar with carbs are you? The above link has a great description of how the various adjustments affect the running. (I assume that your carbs are CV). Definitely sounds a bit lean on the screws. I would be more worried about the idle hanging up than the crack on decel as some cracking is standard with CV carbs. Stock exhausts are very good at masking the decel crack.

Have you been in the carbs before? Do you know if the floats are set right? Getting the floats right was the last bit of carb tuning I mastered. Mostly because I was worried I would do it wrong. When I finally did it, I found mine (on my old Bandit 1200) were way off. I had been chasing a rich tune for a while before that and, sure enough, my floats were a couple of millimeters rich.

Well I am relieved, yet feel a little like an idiot. I was going to get to the bottom of this cracking, poor idle issue if it was the last thing I ever did! I did a compression check...good, all cylinders 158 psi, did a leak down test...good, all cylinders held an even 75 psi. Next was was the resistance check on the coil primary...all checked out, 23 ohms. then came the secondary. The rear two cylinders checked out good but the front two were bouncing all over the meter. Turned out to be a faulty plug wire the whole time. I went to the local auto parts store purchased a universal set of ACCEL 8mm straight boot ignition wires, installed them and problem solved. I did have to buy another set of plugs with the little threaded connector that screws
on to the top of the plugs. I just screwed those to the existing plugs. What the hell, those used to come with all spark plugs. If you didn't need them you threw them away.
Thanks gain everyone who has replied to this post.

Yes the floats were checked about two years ago and they were good then. As you can see in my recent post it was not a carb issue the whole time.
