What would you consider hand tight? It's hard to get my hand in there to do a nice twist.

I've changed my oil a number of times, and twice the filter must have vibrated-twisted off a bit and it would start leaking oil. It's pretty annoying since i need to take the fairings off each time it starts leaking - and on long trips it wouldn't be very easy to do.

Good tips for removing the filter. I use a regular old O'Reily's cup style tool with a 3/8 socket opening on top. This allows me to insert an socket extension bar to grab hold of the filter. I bought a few and kept the one that fit the best. They're only like $3-5 so it was no biggie.

I like to give the new filter just a slight twist with a tool. Like someone else said, personal preference, I guess.
