Hello vfr world! So today I bought my first vfr. It's a 94 750f with 21k supposedly well cared for miles and it seems to ride great. I put about 100 miles on it bringing it home today and it was a great ride. The power, sound and overall comfort was great. I've owned 2 I4's 600s in the past and there just isn't much comparison. I think I'm gonna enjoy this bike for a long time. I want to make sure I keep this baby running top notch for years to come. The bike from what Ive been told is 100% stock except for a couple aesthetic mods. I am wondering if there is anything particular that I should look for to make sure everything is working how its supposed to? Common problems? I've read that they have rectifier problems. Any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated!! I live outside Atlanta, GA if anyone wants to go for a ride!

:welcome: to the madness from the Golden State
Congratulation on your new ride, just regular maintenance, add gas and go.
Pay attention to the RR and harness symtom.

yup plus one on what scuba said.
install a voltage gauge wired straight to the battery and get a fh020aa regulator/rectifier.
direct solder the rr to the stator and wire the rr fused right to the battery.
you want to bypass as many oem connections and wires as possible.
and get the vfrness for your year as well.
the vfr is an awesome bike crippled by a shitty electrical system.

Thanks alot for your replies. Took it for its second ride around Atlanta with the wife and had a good time. I'm not sure if any of the electrical stuff has been changed by previous owners but it seems to ride great. I work in an automotive electronics shop and tomorrow I'm planning on riding to work so I can go thru the electronics on the bike. Does the the stock rr hinder any performance or is just prone to causing problems?

It's just prone to failure. It's a shunt rr, that's what they do. And some times they take the stator out with them too.

OK so I just put my meter on my battery and read just over 13 volts with the key off. Running it dropped down to 12.5 or so volts.... Urgghh just what I needed. I know that running it should be reading around 14.4 volts. Is there guides on here that have pictures maybe and exactly how to install the new RR? Is there a way to do a plug and play? Thanks in advance.

So thank you for your replies. I just went and pulled my fairings back a bit and found the RR..Good ole SH model.. Well I traced all the wiring to the stator and it looks to be very easy to swap out. I checked the only real connection point between the RR and Stator and the plugs are all fine. No overheating or anything burnt thankfully. So as soon as I got back on my computer I went ahead and ordered the super kit roadstercycle.com and will install it next week. Now I worry some about the stator being bad.. What are the chances its bad too? I saw on this site that some peoples harnesses burned at the plug and caused a short..I don't have any of that..could it still be bad? Thanks for any help in advance!!

You are going to pull them a part, might as well replace the stator so you are having a piece of mind. Save the old one for spare.
