I am a prospective RC36 owner, but am torn between the '90 - '93 model and the '94 - '97 model. Asthetically I much prefer the purposeful, charismatic appearance of the 3rd generation models ('93 in particular - go figure), but functionally I would prefer one of 4th gen models due to their larger fuel capacity, standard center stand, better parts availability, better bike availability etc.. I'm wondering if the 3rd gen bodywork can be retrofitted (or is that retrograded?) onto a later bike. It looks like the headlight is shared, but the upper fairing bracket is not. Other than the styling of the lower frame casting, and the fact that the tank might end up looking a bit bulbous, are there any major enough chassis differences between the two to prevent such a conversion?
A. The 90-93 fairing is harder to find. B. With enough cubic dollars anything can be made to fit. C. The 4th gen was supposed to emulate the famous NR in style. Meh, not so much to me. I think a far cooler conversion is the retrofitting of the RC30/45 fairings. Your money, your choice. Or just buy a 93, one on fleabay now. Larry
Since the '90-'93 frame is actually part of the 'bodywork', I highly doubt that it would be a direct bolt-on to a '94-'97.
