Had a tire change a couple of months back, was recommended Conti Motions as apparently a good tire.
Front and back fitted, lovely and soft when warm and an amazing pair. (I love a lovely pair).

Now this is not a 'Get these tyres they is amazings' or 'Continental are rubbish aviod like the plague' blah blah. I don't listen to peoples opinions on tyres because each to their own and all that.

BUT! Just under 500 miles later and the back is nearly bald. Not kidding. Not due to suspension. Not from carrying a beer keg on the back (I don't btw) or any of that. Front tire is perfect etc etc.

Then I did a bit of research. Simply typed into Google 'Continental Motion VFR800' and also looked at reviews for said tire and BOOM! Everyone that has a VFR and put these on has had bald back tire in a few hundred miles. Conti didn't do their research with V4's apparently.

Well that's the end of my sad tale. My mechanic kindly gave me a new set of part worn Dunlop something or other and I love them to bits. He gave me some dosh off for my front as was new still.

Just had to vent and share :)

500 would be one weekend for me. I can't image having a tire go from new to bald in one weekend.

Interesting, I've heard a lot of good reviews of the Contimotion tires and how they offer good grip and appear to be a good fit for sport touring, but maybe this was before they had a chance to run them for a while. So far I am happy with my PR2s on the '09 as so far they have nearly 8k miles on them with plenty of tread left. Although they are a great sport tire, the Dunlop Q2s only lasted a couple of thousand miles on my Duc, which is OK as the Duc is just for "play time" anyway, which may have contributed to their short lifespan. I had considered Continental tires at one point, but all the reviews of the PR2s seemed to steer me away from Contimotions, that and I've always been fond of Michelin MC tires, so maybe it was for the best. Not sure what Dunlops they put on for you, but if its the Q2s, expect great performance but maybe not many miles as the PR2s but I'm sure it will be well above your Contimotions.

My pops has a 76 Goldwing and they have similar issues with certain tires going bald extremely fast.
Funny thing is with my BT023s, when my bike was inspected the front tire was actually worn more than the rear.

Thanks for the heads-up. Forgive my ignorance, but why would a V4 be that different? I have heard that they are a bit hard on chains (can't confirm this) but haven't heard the same re tyres.

I was told that the way the engine kicks out the power :noidea: I thought once the power gets to the chain or wheel it's all the same.

Thanks for the responses. And yes I do love Michelin's, but bit too much dosh for me. If there's nothing I love more than a lovely pair, it's a bargain.

Interesting, I'm on my second set on my VFR and they look good with 4000 on them. My first set of Conti-Motions did 8200 miles. Commuting and twisty weekend runs.

I've also had them on a Speed Triple (when I had it) and they held up good, not as good as my VFR though. I'll be putting them on my Ninja 1000 when the time comes also.

I'd guess there may be bad batches out there. Or maybe I'm luck a lot.

I've got around 5k on my Conti's. The front looks great, the rear is starting to square off a little. The Conti's are holding as well as the Dunlop Road Smarts on my Suzuki.

not sure but here's my theory the v4 has more weight near the rear tire than my cb750 which has the inline 4 leaning towards the front tire however I think the early wear could be from the exhaust pipes heating up the rear tire the cb has a 4 into 1 which goes from the front of the motor and out the side where the vfr has 2 of the pipes right in front of the rear tire and once you are moving the heat gets pushed back right onto the tire making it softer than normal

Ooooh I didn't think of the header pipe heating it up hmmm. Would explain why they had such a great amount of grip when warm!

I also had a bad experience with motions but my front was the issue. It caused wicked head shake. The rear lasted 3500 miles which is average mileage for me. Previous set were bt023gt's that I was disappointed in.

I ran conti motions on my previous bike (Hyosung GT650R) and currently run them on my VFR and have had no issues with them so far. Sorry to hear about your bad experience though. If its happened on other VFR's though...i may consider some other tires once they wear out as this is my first set on the VFR...time will tell...

Only tires I've used. Nothing to compare them to, granted, but longevity isn't a problem. Even with TX heat and my adolescent tendencies.
