Got out my '93 VFR 750. Replaced starter clutch, and had up and running. Only thing I noticed was cooling fan wasn't running. Checked resistance through fan, checked continuity at switch connection, and fan did not work when directly connected to battery.
. . .SO. . . .I need to replace the fan or just fan motor.
Wondering if anyone has experience here and can tell me what year range of vfrs can I pull a fan from, 90-97? or was 94-97 using different size fan.

When I re-install new fan I will just use a bypass switch so I can run the fan continuously while bike is on.

-i love my bike, but haven't ridden enough to warrant so many replacements within my first year owning, anyone want a 93 750? IMAG0097.jpg Photo on 8-27-12 at 1.15 PM.jpg Photo on 8-27-12 at 1.15 PM #2.jpg

see if you can turn the fan by hand, then squirt wd40 or other lube into the bearings--once you break it free it can still have some life left with some lube...

NOT in that condition, i can tell you !! That bike's been too f'ed up in too many ways. Unless someone with lotsa money and time to invest wants to "rescue" a heap that various riders have damaged.

the brushes in the motor must be missing or not touching the commutator since it turns freely yet putting 12 v on it doesn't move. When the bearings seize it locks the shaft, then when current flows it overheats the brush block and melts the plastic parts, etc. good luck.

alright, so to get this thread back on topic. . . . I got a new fan and I either fried it or it doesn't work, but i've learned alot in the process.
if fan isn't fried- thermo is
if fan is fried- i'll put bypass in correctly and fan won't work.

Question, Which contacts do I hook up to what to bypass fan, and even simpler. . . what connections do I connect to fan to power and test if working.

-the lead coming from harness has green wire to ground, and black w/ blue stripe into fan, otherside of fan goes to thermo switch.
I've tried + to black w/blue stripe AND/OR thermo switch wire on other side while ground is connected with no luck.

Alright guys, so thanks for all your helpful input, took a basics crash course in circuitry, but I ran some 10g. wire from (+) terminal to a switch, then ran switch into fan harness. disconnected thermo switch connector and routed to (-) terminal connection on the engine casing.

fan runs continuously now which is exactly what i need. and I have a second incase i burn out the first.
