So to test the switch just jump the Blue and the white/blue wire together per the manual. Edit: Bl is black on the manual but I don't see black wires in your pics.

    Thanks Brentbaker.

Yes, no black wires in my pictures because the pictures are of the ignition switch. Your post shows connections for a Kill Swtich.

I rigged the 99 ignition switch by matching the wires from my 2000 connector to the wires on the 99 ignition switch. The solder points were marked appropriately.
But, I still have no luck in getting it to start.

Does anyone know if the following things below could cause the FI light to stay on and stop bike from starting? :

    - Engine temperature sensor
    - Baro sensor
    - Bad stator (mine tests fine so far...having serious difficulty getting the cover off and afraid I may damage it out of frustration)
    - Faulty headlight (mine came with no bulbs and not worried about it because I plan to do a HID setup when bike starts)
    - Shoot! What else could cause the DARN FI LIGHT to stay on!!!

Phew! ready for this nightmare to be over. LOL

    Thanks guys!

You said that you "shorted" the side stand switch (assuming so the computer thinks the side stand is up) But doesn't the side stand have to be down for the computer to give you the codes when you short the two wire connector to get the FI codes?

Yes, the side stand switch was shorted, and when I was trying to get the codes, I removed the green connector to simulate it as being OPEN like it should when side stand is down. That would be the correct step, right?

Got my bike RUNNING. It would be wrong to not update you guys on the progress of this.

Since I haven't had the time to tinker with the bike for a while, I called in a guy who claims to have 25 years of experience working on bikes and cars and in less than an hour, he found the problem. The problem was the KILL SWITCH. There is a black/white wire that is supposed to be hot but it wasn't so after detecting that fault, he tapped power from the ignition switch (red/black wire, I guess) because this ignition switch wire only comes on when the ignition is switched ON.

Now the bike starts and shuts off as it is supposed to. I have not checked other things but it is damn good to hear the bike roar to life.

Thanks for all those who helped.

Yes, but my expertise would never have helped me find out that it wasn't getting power. And it was the only thing I hadn't swapped. I figured if it allows the starter to crank, then it had to be good, so I only cleaned it. DUMB ME!!

You should check the kill switch. Sometimes there's no power going to it, so it needs to be checked. That's my guess.

    (Glad you got it running).

Thanks a bunch. Makes me smile every time I look at it because I have NO experience fixing bikes nor doing bodywork, but I am very satisfied with how this turned out. I learned a lot. And it wouldn't have been possible without the good people (like you) on here who cheer on even when one is flat on his face.

    :)

Well I am a bit late, and am glad you got her going. I am not certain if you found the actual problem or just found a "work around". If the black wire was cold it would indicate a problem with the engine stop relay. I have attached the VFR manual troubleshooting page for the F1 light stays lit. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the bank angle sensor. It was too much of a task to test properly so I just pulled one off my parts bike and vroooomm. The guy I bought the Viffer from hit a deer and toasted the sensor intermitnatly. If I unwillingly cranked the bars to the right it would start, but then when I leaned it onto the kick stand F1 stayed lit.
